It did hurt, indeed. Raw and sharp description of the professional journey and everyday struggles of one junior doctor at NHS. At parts it seemed too much detail, too much pain (trigger warning for pregnant and sensitive readers), but I think we owe it to the healthcare professionals to learn about what their job actually entails. The author also balanced the sad and painful with some great humor. I must admit I cried at the end of this book, it seemed cruel and unfair. But the author did manage to offer me one conclusion to take away - treat healthcare workers with more empathy (even though they sometimes seem like superheroes that we, the non-medics, have nothing to offer). It made me see the doctors and nurses I've encountered in my life in a different, more accepting and compassionate way.

4.5 stars. This is Going to Hurt was a really interesting glimpse into the world of an NHS junior OBGYN.
I highly recommend the audiobook version, as it is narrated by Adam Kay and his dry, British wit really comes through. I laughed out loud multiple times. There are plenty of stories about many patients getting random objects stuck in various downstairs orifices, but then there are some heartbreaking stories and touching stories as well.
Especially towards the end, Kay points us toward the fact that rarely do people see healthcare workers as human, and they often end up suffering in silence as result as they bear the weight of the world and the trauma on their shoulders. It is what ultimately led him to quit the profession.
This book won't only entertain you and educate you, but it'll give you a newfound appreciation for the hard work doctors put in to keep us healthy and alive. Highly recommended!

Absolutely loved it! Hillarious, filled with sarcasm and especially having had a child, having been through labour, etc. This was amazing! But also very honest and eye-opening about the work of doctors. I have so much more respect for them after having read this.

A very clever and informative book with great narration.
Мінуси:
- місцями гумор заради гумору. Видавався вимученим;

well written. the last entry and aftermath chapter wrap up was well done. the culmination of events told in a diary format was well done and not hard to follow. some of the humor / terminology was a bit crude for me, just a small part. but overall a good read.
