adam kay is a fantastic writer. he’s funny and sincere and really keeps the reader’s attention. he also reads the book, i like his voice aha.

i had watched the show before i decided to sit down and listen to the book. i recognised a lot of the different stories in the show and i actually really love how they adapted the book into the show we got.

i totally and utterly recommend reading the book and watching the show, they’re both very different but great and incredibly sad experiences.

A beautiful tragedy of a book. It reveals just how much our NHS is struggling and its staff drowning. You want to laugh at the dry sense of humour but also cry at how broken the system is, just how much our doctors and nurses give for us. A real eye-opener that everyone should read.

Perfect for those on the edge between wanting and fearing a career in medicine, one of the things that although terrifying managed to pull me back off that ledge into applying to med school

It’s literally a diary of his time at the hospital as a jnr Dr but I didn’t like that he effectively joked about many of his patients. I don’t think it’s funny to laugh at people, it’s just cheap hits when these people are in your care and at their most vulnerable. This could have been written in a different format that wouldn’t poke fun at people but still reflected on his experience, which would have been much more effective.
