I don't like so much this books. The history is easy to read, but anything happens, and when finally that a thing the book ir over

A stunning book, most of which i devoured in one sitting. Shirin’s character development was amazing, not just with Ocean but the dance team aswell. She slowly but surely started to open up to Ocean so sweet to read. Ocean was also dreamy and he was just SO NICE. We love a varsity basketball.
I liked that both Shirin and Ocean had their own personal struggles and also that it was perhaps not the ideal ending for them but a satisfactory one which left much to the imagination. Described the teenage experience really well and the instability and insecurity that comes with been a teen.
The way Shirin was treated was so horrible and the lack of care shown by the various authority figures was heartbreaking to read. This book is a must read for any teenage/adult and it really shows that in a world where you can be anything, be kind.

i had high expectations for this book. as a huge fan of the shatter me series, i already loved tahereh’s writing. i already knew the premise of the book and i knew i would learn a lot from it. i knew i would probably like it.
still, i was nowhere ready for this book. i started crying at 5% and i don’t think i ever stoped. i realized prejudices i had and didn’t even knew they were there. i kept smiling at the book as an idiot, i started laughing at loud just to be sobbing at the next chapter.
this book was a roller coaster of love, pain, sadness, light, laughter and learning. it was one of the best books i’ve ever read.
and i feel like i must point out the difference between tahereh’s writing in the shatter me series and in this book. neither of them are bad, and they carrie the same essence; but somehow they’re not the same. and it fits so perfectly.
i loved shirin so so so much. the amount of love and compassion i created for her isn’t normal. and i also
loved ocean. i loved navid. i loved the romance. i loved everything. i never write reviews cause particularly, i never think they are any good or worth reading. but i just had to come here and say how much i’m completely in love for this book.
so thank you, tahereh, for giving me this. thank you for sharing this story, for writing it, for putting so much passion and love and reality in this. i don’t know what else to say besides this. thank you.

I learned so much while reading this book. It’s really horrifying that I’ve lived in America, lived with people of so many different cultures, had Muslim friends, but still never have really asked they about their experiences. I really loved this book for all of its emotions and all of its knowledge.
In the lightest of terms, this book is a romance novel. It has this dramatic story of two young lovers figuring out their place in the world. But their place is influenced by race, religion, social status, and hate.

My words do not do justice to the artistry of this novel. Thank you Tahereh Mafi for yet another spectacular read.

I am so glad I walked into this only vaguely knowing is a story about discrimination and the struggle of a teenager.
But this book was so much more.
Mild spoiler ahead!!!!

This story has also some romance, but not something cheesy. The feelings are true to that age - 16- and are realistic. It all blends well with the main focus and I don't consider it takes anything from the story's value.

4.5 stars

I wasn't expecting this book to be so romance heavy, but I'm not complaining because I'm a hoe for contemporary romance!

This story was beautiful. I was a fan of Tahereh Mafi's Shatter Me series when it first came out, but over the years my tastes have changed. I'm still very nostalgic when it comes to that series and I consider Tahereh Mafi to be an author that I am interested in. However, this is the first book of Tahereh's that I have read that wasn't in the Shatter Me series. TBH I just wasn't into her 2 middle grade books so I skipped those. The premise of this book sounded so intriguing to me and the title and cover was also very alluring so I knew I wanted to read it. I don't know why it took me over a year to pick this up, but I am glad I did because this book was incredible!

Right away I loved Shirin's character. She felt so real and I was instantly transported back to high school with the way Tahereh wrote her character and the setting. It's been 10 years for me, but this book made it feel like it was last week lol. My heart broke for Shirin a thousand times throughout this novel, but I think it's a necessary read. Her struggles dealing with racism and bigotry was so heartbreaking. I really enjoyed the growth of her character, but her relationship with Ocean was also so beautiful. I did not except to fall for these 2 cuties so hard. The ending kind of broke my heart, but it also fixed it so idk maybe love is real.

Definitely interested in reading more contemporary from Tahereh Mafi. If the premise of this book intrigues you, or you are looking to read more diverse YA then I highly encourage you to pick up this book!

OKAY. LOVED. THIS. Couldn't put it down! Loved the realness - Shirin is a Muslim Hijabi teen and she is BOLD and FIERCE and freaking REAL and I am HERE FOR IT. She is a breakdancer (how badass can you get?!) and I adore a good coming-of-age romance that defies expectations. LOVED IT ALL!
