I like James Acaster and this is such a unique style of book. It’s basically fantastical storytelling meets societal satire. It wasn’t quite laugh out loud funny but I did enjoy the lengths to with he’s gone to show how truly outrageous social media is.

Oh my god I loved this book. It is ridiculous and absurd and I’m sure it’s not for everyone. But I have never laughed out loud so much (or at all?) from a book like this. At one point my partner came out of his office to see if I was ok because he could hear me in hysterics.

It’s a fictional telling of a man quitting social media and then recreating in real life all the little things social media offers. There is a large and insane cast of characters and adventures and constant call-backs to prior jokes.

I listened to the audiobook, read by James himself, and highly recommend it. To a certain type of person, I guess.

Funny and weird (as Acaster usually is), but also overlong and slightly exhausting (as Acaster can be).

An entertaining read with a lot of wit and personality. The storyline doesn’t take itself too seriously and has a strong sense of comedy guiding through each page. Perfect book for anyone with a good sense of humour.

A very odd, mildly amusing book. Chosen on impulse from my library's selection of new titles, I finished it but found it rather pointless. I think James Acaster is a comedian and I presume he is mocking the more serious titles out there which claim to be able to help the reader mitigate their dependence on Social Media but I am not really on the same wavelength as the author so I am probably not the intended audience.

3.5 Stars

I wasn't entirely sure what I was walking into when I started this book, but I must say, I'm very pleased with how it ended up. This was a slow start for me, once again because I wasn't entirely sure what the actual theme was, or what tone it was meant to express, but once I'd gotten into it and started to understand what was going on, I enjoyed this thoroughly.

This was such an interesting take on the whole social media debate. It managed to express perfectly how stupid everything we do on social media is and how insane a lot of these things would be if we did them in real life. The ridiculous scenarios shown in this book managed to be super comedic while also getting it's point across. I also have to mention how very James Acaster this book was. You could hear his voice shining throughout this read, it read like attending one of his shows - pretty amazing if you ask me.

Now, this book is advertised as a Vol. 1 so I think it's safe to assume another will be released in the future? I certainly haven't heard anything about it yet but I will be keeping my ears peeled for any news.

Wow after reading this my life will never be the same again. Incredible advice 10/10 would recommend
