James Acaster’s Guide to Quitting Social Media is in no way a guide at all. It is a narrative fiction about a man named James Acaster creating a group of people who swear off technology and try to recreate the thrills of being online in real life.
While I love James Acaster’s comedy and read James Acaster’s Classic Scrapes twice in a month – this book somehow misses the mark of any of his other material. At a high-level the book works as a metaphor, but the metaphor and humor are stretched so thin that even a book this short was a drag.
I have no idea who this book is for.

I feel the the title both works and doesn’t. It’s hilarious to jump into a what you’d think is a self help product only to enter the World of Acaster.
I personally loved this book.

Listened as an audiobook on long family car journeys. A good collective listen, the story moves quite quickly but isn't that funny at points
Gave up on it. Fair play to audible for giving me my shiny credit back.
James is hilarious and this book made me giggle the whole way through, it’s very silly satire that makes some very good points if you can find them. I highly recommend the audio book as I’m not sure it would be as funny on the written page. I enjoyed it but as its one big long running joke, it does get a bit much and feels a bit too long.

i got this book on release day but it took me AGES to read!! i dont think thats a criticism on james but instead just me not being in the right mindset, i ended up having to finish the book as an audiobook because i was having such a hard time
obviously this book was absolutely hilarious and i definitely got a few looks in public trying to stifle my laughs
if you are a fan of james acaster’s style of comedy particularly some of his fictitious personas this book is definitely a brilliant read but id take the actual advice element with a grain of salt
i have to say im a bit disappointed it isn’t actually his genuine perspective on the situation but i knew what it was going into it and its a good book for what it is

I like a lot of James' work, especially his previous book "Classic Scrapes". But for me a lot of this was quite repetitive and started to get boring. Doesn't help that it's very out there and imaginative which is fine if you like that side of his comedy, just worth knowing going in as can be difficult to engage with at first.
A slow start and repetitive ending is a bad sandwhich but theres some fun in the middle chapters (The End to Celebrity Deaths is the sweet spot). Bit disappointed overall which is a shame really.
