I …. Didn’t like this.
DNF’d at 70% and usually I will push through at that point or not rate but I just couldn’t get past the concept I guess so it was hard for me to get into the story. Also someone take away Brinkleys cat away, she doesn’t deserve Winnie.

There were a few things that irked me in this book.
1) the sexy paint scene - terrible idea and I felt like the author didn’t keep up with it.
2) the whole academic paper and there is NO way ethics would have approved that without staff knowing.

Incredibly cheesy and all around not necessary. I was hoping it would get better but it never did...
3.5 to 4 stars!
CW: gaslighting, infidelity, emotional/verbal abuse, toxic parental relationship
Ok, so this was cute!
Thing were wrapped up a little *too* quickly at the end there, especially given what the actual conflicts were (and there were quite a few).
This is why I’m always so happy to see therapy or any kind of counseling mentioned in romance books, because some of these characters just go through A LOT. Not even some good sex could take care of it!!
So while there was a lot to be desired in the ways things wrap up, it still read incredibly quick and I laughed quite a bit sooooo I enjoyed it! It was exactly what my brain needed to break through that oncoming slump and I’m not mad about it.
It also gets a little steamy too, so that didn’t hurt either.

This book was fun, flirty and different than other contemporary romance books I’ve read. I loved the dynamics between the two main characters, Brinkley and Mark, and the concept of hiring a service to put bad people in their place. I do feel like the ending was a bit rushed and wish there were a few more chapters to see how everything turned out as well as an epilogue! Overall, I flew through and really enjoyed this rom-com. 3.5 stars rounded up.
I love a good enemies-to-lovers romance, but this just wasn't it. None of "Heartbreak for Hire" made me feel good. The characters were manipulative and toxic and just not likeable. None of the relationships, romantic or otherwise, were healthy or positive. Brinkley's whole job was cutthroat and hypocritical. Just not fun and certainly not romantic.
Also, did Uber pay per mention?

I can't remember the last time I read an entire book in one afternoon/evening but I did with Heartbreak for Hire. I really loved the premise of this book and it was a unique and interesting workplace rom-com. The banter and character interactions between Brinkley and Mark reminded me a lot of the dynamic between the main characters in The Hating Game. The constant bickering was hysterical! There were several times I had to stop reading because I laughed so hard at some of the one liners that were in this book. 10/10 for witty banter which is usually my favorite thing in books. If you tell me a book has witty banter I will automatically read it.
The only reason I wouldn't give this a full 5 stars was because a lot of the plot had your typical cliches that are commonly seen in other romance novels. You know what is going to happen because we have seen the same thing play out in other books. While there may be some cliches, but there are so many other deeper topics that are addressed in this book as well. The characters in this book deal with sexism, cheating, abandonment, social isolation, dysfunctional relationships with parents, self-doubt, etc. I wish these deeper topics had been explored more in depth. It would have really added a level of complexity to the story and the characters that I found was slightly missing in the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for allowing me to read an eARC in exchange for an honest review. Opinions are my own.

Loved this book so much I read it twice! It’s a really good, clear story with a nice B-plot that complements the main story very well. The characters are all fleshed out (even the side ones) and you definitely want to root for Brinkley and Markus. Brinkley can be a bit irrational at times, but the way the author explains her rationale behind decisions is one of the best I’ve seen in a romance book, perhaps since Book Lovers by Emily Henry. You really get to know her psyche and I appreciated that! There is a really interesting twist at the end of the book as well that was nice and refreshing. As it was towards the end/climax, you think you’re nearing the conclusion of the story but it throws you for a bit of a loop. Definitely enjoyed this!
Thoughts: Enemies-to-lovers romance fans are going to enjoy the character chemistry, originality, and humor in Sonia Hartl's Heartbreak for Hire. Brinkley has quite the unique job -- a revenge-for-hire "operative" at a company that specializes in giving backstabbing men what's coming to them for an all-female clientele. This is a first for this reader! I thoroughly enjoyed Brinkley's assignments and almost wish this kind of company really existed... And the chemistry between Brinkley and Mark is on fire! I loved their banter and the sarcasm was perfect! It felt like Brinkley's issues with men were a bit redundantly explained at times (she was jilted by her ex-boyfriend, we got it!), but she was a relatable character who was totally kick butt at what is probably every jilted woman's dream job. We also get a peek into Mark's life, which isn't all sunshine and rainbows, making him more realistic and relatable, as well. I do think some added character development would've helped make the secondary characters more interesting -- with the exception of Brinkley's mother, it felt like there was some missed potential with a few of the characters. Overall, this was a fun enemies-to-lovers beach read with an interesting premise, some kick booty feminism, and plenty of chemistry to keep readers interested.
