Parts of this book were very interesting, however most of it focuses on video games. I thought the title was somewhat misleading. It doesn't talk much about screen time (tablets) and doesn't even mention TV.

This book contains some fascinating information and is written in a very engaging style, but there is clearly not enough data to constitute enough material for a whole book. As a consequence, the volume quickly descends into theoretical paranoia and fear mongering to fill the remaining pages. I recommend reading the first few chapters only, at least until the author has enough of value to flesh out the rest of the book.

I didn’t like this book as much as the others I have read on the subject but the subject continues to be one that I am passionate about. I just wish my kids’ friends felt the same. Or that we could find other families who value creative play, outside time, and other wholesome activities instead of staring vacantly at a screen. I am excited though about the changes I am seeing in myself and my kids as we lessen our tech time and increase time outside. My boys aren’t even missing it and sometimes don’t even bother with the two hours weekly allotted to them for screens. They are finding better things to do, are happier, and are getting along with each other better than they ever have. It might not make a difference in every family to cut back but it’s sure worth a try!
