I thought this collection of poetry about a young Syrian refugee was really sweet and captured a lot of what being a middle schooler is like, with the added challenge of not speaking a new language, having to fit in, and adapting to a new surrounding. My only complaint is that Jude’s voice seems a little mature for a seventh grader, even with all of her life experience. I had to keep reminding myself that the character was so young. I would have liked to feel that I was reading a younger person’s voice.

Absolutely stunning. The verse prose is such an evocative style that effortlessly conveys the complex emotions throughout the story. My kid read this first and suggested it to me. We had a beautiful discussion of it when I finished reading.

This was such an amazing read.
This is the first novel that I have read in verse and it was such an interesting storytelling method that really makes the story fly by.
This is such an important novel that covers such important topics and really allows you to empathise with all of the characters and gives a highly necessary insight into the refugee crisis and the prejudice that refugees face.

Some pages make me smile and some pages make me cry. Such a powerful, uplifting story about finding a place when far from home.
