This was mainly to fulfill a 52 Book Club prompt, but I enjoyed hearing the perspective of a child displaced from Syria in the US. And the narrator was wonderful!

I loved this book, and Jude. The book is written in verse, each short chapter showing us a moment in Jude's life. First, when she lives with her family in Syria and then after moving to America. The writing is beautiful and goes straight to your heart, even though it is a short book. I hurt for Jude and how she missed her father and brother, often not knowing if they were safe. I felt for her mother, who wants Jude to be happy but is also scared she will forget where she came from and who she is.

This perfectly captured the good and bad in people and society. How there are those who will love and welcome you, but other people who let fear and hate rule them instead.

The message behind this book is beautiful, and full of meaning. It truly opens your eyes to the truth and to what you can't physically see, to what is hiding inside of people who suffer from racism, and hatred for just being different. Again, I highly recommend this book. There is something so pure about this story, also harsh because it shows the truth. And the author's note at the end is also amazing. This book has a true and magnificent purpose!

I am a sucker for books with Middle Eastern representation. I did not realized that this book was written in verse until after listening to it for an hour.

This was breathtakingly written. The protagonist was a young girl from Syria who fled from her country with her mother to the US leaving behind her father and brother. This book dealt with the struggles of leaving your home and loved ones, assimilation to US culture, preserving your culture, Islamophobia, discrimination, racism, and war. It also had characters from different cultures: Syrian, Korean, Chinese, and American-Lebanese. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing the characters and story to life. I highly enjoyed this audiobook production.

Genorosity. Love. Kindess. Home.

I love reading and hearing stories about people and families from other cultures.
This is the story of a little girl and her Mom from Syria who come to live in America in the height of unrest in their country.

They go through so much adjustment and hard situations as they are making America their home. It is a good reminder that everyone has a story and everyone deserves a chance to be heard and understood.

It was a super fast MG read, coming home story. Boys might like this story but I feel like girls would understand it better.  Loved the ESL content in it and I reminded me of why I love to teach these students.

Absolutely beautiful! I will forever cherish this book and what Jude has taught me ✨
