I hope this book becomes the new 7th grade staple. It’s a beautiful, illuminating story of teen girl who immigrates from Syria to Cincinnati. I loved it and wish it were longer!
This book does a wonderful job of showing a perspective we often don’t see. It’s a quick and easy YA novel read. I feel for Jude and my heart breaks for her at times, but I rejoiced when rejoiced. I think we could all be a little more like Jude.
I never know what to expect from a middle grade book but this was beautiful! It was a quick read and I think would be great for so many reasons for a middle grader.

Important read, beautifully told, and very accessible for upper elementary and middle grade readers.
This is a pretty decent book and I like to see authors and characters of color. I know that it's a junior fiction for readers new to chapter books but I would have liked for it to continue and extend a bit more. Very good resolution and probably, unfortunately, more common in our world today then most will admit; but it sends a great message!
Sooooo very typically a coming of age book about a young girl finding her voice. Whats so beautiful is that its a brown girl proud of her family, language, culture and religion ♥ truly lovely. Change the narrative!
It physically hurt to put this book down. It brought both giggles and tears. It's one of those books that you hold to your heart when you're done because it was so touching. You will fall in love with Jude and her family, who had to leave Syria for America and leave Jude navigating middle school friends and frenemies in the mix. Warga approaches these difficult concepts with beauty and creativity. I enjoyed every page. Borrowed from the library but now I will have to buy it.
Such an important book for readers of all ages. Currently loving novels written in verse and the way I know they will help my students engage with high quality texts. Can’t wait for my students to get this one in their hands this year.
