I enjoyed the multiple perspective narration in this story, and I especially appreciated all of the strong women. This was such a unique book that straddles the line between social commentary and satire. It made me laugh and cringe all at the same time. A powerful message against book banning. Enjoyable read.

An entertaining satirical story that highlights the value of reading and public libraries. The plot and writing are simpler than what I usually prefer, but I can appreciate how Miller has distilled a serious and relevant topic into something engaging, theatrical, and straightforward (making it approachable for younger or more casual readers).

If you’re looking for a story that’s a salve to the current state of the world, you could do worse. It’s not my favourite read of the year, but it’s not the worst, and I’d recommend it if you’re in a certain mood.
The quote on the cover described this as revenge fantasy, and I think that’s the most accurate term. The story is a combination of social commentary and an easy read where you know there’ll be a happy ending. It has good bones, but the execution is heavy-handed. It tackles heavy issues, but also doesn’t want to get too heavy so there’s some parts of the plot that seem oddly paced.
A big cast of characters, but none of them have a particularly distinct voice. There’s not a lot of nuance - the good guys are good, the bad guys are bad, and maybe there’s one or two paragraphs that tries to add a bit more depth, but that’s about it. I like to try imagine the world complexly, but you can understand why someone writes characters with less depth than say, the cast of Digimon Season 2, when you have a look at the news.

I love this book. Had some really heavy topics that are more than relevant today but had a fun take on it with real characters and a great small town. Highly recommended.
