OMFG
emotional funny hopeful sad tense medium-paced

I liked the beginning and the end of this story. Denver & Blair certainly had chemistry but I wanted to see more development between them. It's like one second they met again, then there were constant flashbacks of their past and they were tangled up again in the present very fast. They were both stupid and made mistakes when they were teenagers but I felt like they hadn't grown up much. They were still a bit immature. There was emotional depth and all the characters were solid but I just did not feel connected to them at times tbh. Also, Blair came across as very selfish in the past. She decided to do everything on her own and got mad at Denver after going through the whole process, when she knew that he did not want that. Since he loved her so much and they had their entire life planned out, he definitely had a say in that situation but she was not mature enough to have an open, serious conversation with him and then expected him to show up for her. And the way she kept bringing up him being with other people during their separation was actually annoying. He definitely did some things he was not supposed to, but she was the one who left, so I did not understand her sometimes. Overall, this was a good read, the romance was sweet and some emotional scenes were well written, but the execution did not meet my expectations, smh.

Swooped straight back to Wells Ranch!
This was sweet and cosy but so emotional at the same time.
Had such a good time reading this ...
But Red and Cas will always have my heart ♥️

The long awaited book 3 is finally here. There were some fun Easter eggs of other Bailey Hannah books like the mysterious horse that came from Fox Ridge. I wish there was a reference to Sundial/Beau somewhere in there. He had his own novella, but his absence was never addressed in the main series.
After the early scene where Denny recounts his pre-ride ritual that he had with his mom, I was kind of hoping that the book would end with Blair telling him to “give em hell”…but it wasn’t to be.

As a second chance romance goes, this was super sweet. He was 100% from the moment he saw Blair back in town. Kind of reminded me of the show “Shoresy” with “how good he’d be to her”. For a long time it felt like Blair was mad at Denny for something, but the flashbacks only showed them happy and in love. When it was finally revealed what broke them up, it was a no win situation. They were young and they both were only thinking of what was best for themselves instead of their partner. No one broke it, or was really at fault, it was just terrible timing.

There were a couple of scenes that dealt with Alzheimer’s that were a little too real and hurt a bit. The symmetry of Denny and Blair coming together because of his mom, and then finding each other again because she came home to take care of her mother, was a bit poetic.

This story wasn’t as hot or romantic as “Seeing Red”. It was more a story of healing and forgiveness and loss. I’m so glad that they were both finally ready to see what had been there all along.

Blair Hart returns to Wells Canyon after leaving a decade ago, when her mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis pulls her home. She knows she will have to see Denver Wells, her high school love who shattered her heart all those years ago, but she hopes to avoid him as much as possible. Denver Wells is determined to make up for past mistakes. All those years ago, he shattered Blair’s heart, but he was young and grieving.  As Blair steps into the role of caregiver, Denver steps into the role of steadfast champion. Their slow, emotional reunion had me rooting for them the entire way.

This story beautifully balanced the emotional weight, gritty reality, and swoon-worthy intimacy. The chapters that flashed back to their younger years show just how deeply connected they were, and what tore them apart. This, tied with their cautious, present-day reconnection, was incredibly powerful. Denny and Blair’s connection felt so raw and layered; you can tell from the start that their love never truly disappeared. There is this wonderful push and pull between them. Blair’s hesitation and self-protection against Denny, and Denny’s steadfast protection and devotion. I loved how Denny never stopped proving that Blair and their relationship were worth fighting for, and how Blair slowly let herself believe in them again.

Bailey Hannah continues to craft stories tackling real-life issues. There are many potential triggers in this book; please check them out if they are needed. Her stories are textured with authenticity, from the quiet charm of small-town life to the emotional grit of caregiving and grief. This isn’t just a romance, it’s a story woven into family, loyalty, forgiveness and healing.

At its core, Change of Hart hit me right in the feels. There’s longing, redemption, slow-burn heat and a couple finding their way back to each other under the weight of real-world struggles. If you love a swoony second-chance romance, with emotional depth and cowboy vibes, this is a perfect book for you.
