Увлекательная зеркалка. А что если однажды женщины станут сильным полом? Как изменится наш мир?
Спойлер - никак.

Let me just say this books loses a star for how awful the audiobook experience was, the accents were so grating, I probably would’ve enjoyed it more had I read a physical copy. That being said, this book would be great as a short story. The theme is solid, hierarchies are bad even with women on top, but the plot is simultaneously boring and chaotic and there is not a single sympathetic character in it. Not for me.

It was the final half of the book that gave it the fourth star for its creativity and originality. I was set on giving it a minimum of three stars because the first few chapters did not captivate me enough and I was torn whether to continue reading. Although there were graphic violent and sexual scenes which made me uncomfortable, the book gave me a valuable perspective on gender. My overall takeaway is that physical superiority matters more than we give it credit and drives so much of how we behave and perceive others.

Really insightful read, the premise seems so simple, but it really works to the advantage of exploring the reversal of patriarchy and what that could potentially look like. Alderman portrays the subtle nuances of sexism by exposing them against male characters, and I thought it was fascinating in how confronting it felt. I also enjoyed the metafictionality aspect too. I think that while a lot of ground was covered in this hypothetical, I would have loved to have seen more, especially through a queer perspective. That being said, this was a really enjoyable read that I found myself compelled by from beginning to end.

This book is a overly trodden allegory and could have been much more concise - it almost comes off anti-feminist perhaps superficially intending to go off empowering and commentate on power dynamics between “sex” under the conflation of gender - the cis-normative was cringe. It also has very clear cringy racial & religious biases; it’s giving white feminist saviour complex. The GBV was explicit and unnecessary - not survivor centric. Anyway sad the plot et all was so meh because it had moments with good writing, just intolerable story, lack of self awareness and genuine critical commentary with poor character development.
