Another fun addition to the Hannah Swensen mysteries! Having all of the townspeople and all three Swensen sisters together in one place was a great idea for a shortened story like this one. It picks up perfectly where the previous book ended, and I love the fact that Fluke took the opportunity to put in a bunch of the recipes from the cookbook that was a major focus of the previous book.
I liked the idea of essentially being in one setting for most of the novel but the actual story was pretty basic. It seemed extremely short, too. I’m not sure if this was meant to be a novella.
I was liking this book just fine, then I realized that only 60% of the book was the mystery and the rest was the cookbook recipes. I was disappointed to realize I was done. Sure, I guess the mystery was wrapped up, but this was not a full book.
Only 200 of the 380 pages is actual story, the rest is recipes. Can't say I am complaining!
This one was a really easy read, but left me wishing there was more to it. I understand that it's a holiday book though, so it wasn't meant to be a full-blown Swenson Murder Mystery story. I am starting to get very frustrated at Hannah's relationship with Mike. She was irritated at him for over half of the book, but forgave him in like 2 seconds. She's never got a bad thing to say about Norman...come on, Hannah! NORMAN! And there was like NO Moishe in this one :(

Sugar Cookie Murder??? More like, Cookie Cutter Swensen. After the lackluster setting we got in Fudge Cupcake Murder I was hoping #6 in the series would bring a holly jolly hacking our way, but the story fell short of entertaining. It's obvious Fluke reached a bumpy road in the series at this point and didn't exactly know where to take Hannah because it's all a bit redundant and bland at this point. I need intrigue. I need motive. I need more of a setting than just casually throwing out words associated with the holiday in question. I'm moving on to Peach Cobbler Murder because I'm a completionist and masochist apparently. Here's hoping #7 is better than #6.
Also, adding pages and pages of recipes to fluff up the novel after the fact was uncalled for. Where are the Christmas recipes? Does Joanne Fluke not celebrate holidays? So many unanswered questions.
