I am always reluctant to read or watch YA romcoms but I love how Jesse writes. This book is so refreshing and funny. I was transported to my teens with the difference that this story was funnier than my own experiences. The other great thing is that now I am very curious about Indonesia X).

I feel like we all only really started to have fun right at the end when Shar and George were telling their story to each other and the public, so I would have preferred another 20 pages of that goodness personally.

📚 Review: Jesse Q. Sutanto gets me every time. I’ve basically never put down one of her books until I’m done, and this one was no different. I loved the characters and the story, and the depth and detail she brings into her books. This book was so sweet, and I feel like we genuinely got to know the characters, and they got to know each other, before we got into the romance of it. This felt authentic and sweet, and I giggled throughout the whole book - especially the last 25% of it. While it was a lighthearted book, it also talked about a lot of important themes, and I definitely recommend it!
Minor: Sexism, Grief, Death of parent, Abandonment
was intrigued by and read Didn’t See That Coming first so I wanted to backtrack … as much as this was fun, I also enjoyed experiencing a different tone from these characters but similar world to the sequel. honestly, I love that these books have an outlandish plot to begin with but it throws in some very real morals that are seamlessly laced in that connects Western and Eastern cultural differences. the journey for Sharlot and George Clooney is so incredible to follow, as well as giving side characters (Eleanor Roosevelt, Kiki, Eighth Aunt, Sharlot’s mom) reasons to support the mains while also keeping their qualities true to themselves. love Jesse Q Sutanto’s writing, and I cannot wait to get into another one of her novels!
