A fun and lively rom com full of hijinks and humanity. Sharlot is whisked from LA to her mother’s homeland, Indonesia, after being caught in a precarious situation by her mum. There, she is forced to confront interpersonal expectation and misconceptions. She is set up through an app with another teen, George Clooney Tanuwijaya. Most of the characters are Chinese Indonesian; biracial Sharlot is White and Chinese Indonesian.

I listened via Libby (Boroondara), as each chapter was from the perspective of either Sharlot or George they were narrated by different people which added to the story.

Interesting book! Not sure how to feel. I enjoyed it for the most part. Very diverse!! Lots of cultural terms and food names that are confusing! LGBTQ+ is a large part of the book, her mom and 8th aunt and her boyfriend from LA are both

Such a cute YA romance novel. I loved the characters, which was no surprise since I love Jesse Q. Sutanto's writing style. The way she brings a culture, that I am not as familiar with, to life, is remarkable. I want to be friends with Sharlot and was rooting for her from the beginning, even when she was a bit bratty (we've all been there in our teen years). All of the side characters were well developed. All around, a fun quick read and I would recommend.
