I completely heart the illustrations of Kadir Nelson. His animals are luminous, the color palette richly hued, the scenery is imaginative and vibrant. This simple story takes the reader on a journey to find the way home. Loved this book.

Maybe sometimes I see Christian allegory in everything - but I sure saw this book as an allegory about "going home" to heaven. A number of creatures help lost little Baby Bear on his way, urging him to look within himself, sing a song, climb a little higher... until at last he stands on his hind legs atop a rock, a rainbow arcing through the mist from a waterfall, and, surveying a beautiful sunrise, declares, "Yes, I can see. I AM home."

A terrific book to have on the table for the little people at a homegoing service.

What a beautiful book and story! Kadir Nelson's amazing oil paintings are the first thing you notice and they constantly draw your eyes back to them even when it's time to turn the page. The story is sweet and young readers will cheer for Baby Bear. I will go back to the book time after time to look at the stunning illustrations!

I am absolutely enthralled by the talent Kadir Nelson demonstrates in his oil painting illustrations. This book is no exception. The beauty he portrays and the heart-warmingness of the animals along the way who try to help Bear find his way home makes for a wonderful picture book read. I'm just not sure how I feel about the ending -- I was expecting his "home" to be something different.

As I was going along, I kept thinking of [b:I Want My Hat Back|11233988|I Want My Hat Back|Jon Klassen|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327888784s/11233988.jpg|16160067], and how this book reminded me of it in the way of going through the forest and asking different animals for help. Could make an interesting pairing for students to look at the different tones/moods.

Oh, so beautiful! But I was unsure of the ending - how did seeing the whole panorama of the forest mean he was home? And was he still alone?

Beautiful illustrations. Could be good for color Story Time. Not as great as I had hoped.
