mysterious tense

Although this book was still interesting, it was definitely too long and I thought that a couple plot points were silly. I'm also confused as to why Horowitz is targetting gay men? Like all of gay characters, except one, were horrible people. Unless I'm really in the mood for a Horowitz mystery, I'm gonna give up this series. I still really recommend the first book tho.

Another great mystery within a mystery story! Each of the mysteries on their own is very well done, and making the choice to split the outer mystery had me trying to see possible double meanings the whole time (though of course I never managed it, though I did make many wrong guesses). Definitely a long book, but I don't think any of it was unnecessary to the story and I was hooked the whole way through. When the book returned to the outer mystery I'll admit the names of the initial suspects started to get mixed up in my head, but Horowitz does bring back information from the first half so I didn't stay confused for long.

Not going to lie when I saw there's a third Susan Ryeland book on the way in May of this year I got extremely excited. More please!

*3.5
i did like this, but somehow not as much as the first one.
maybe it is the way this series seeme
s to make all gay characters villains in one way or another, and the only black character a racist. i don't know if i would have noticed this as much if i didn't know about the author's politics and maybe i should ignore that (he'd certianly think so), but i'm not sure.
i really enjoyed susan and her fiancees relationship, the way it wasn't all just a straight line but bumps, the way they found back together.
i wasn't the biggest fan of who came out to be murderers (a little too much psychopathy), but i was proud that i guessed quite some of the clues (samantha and the alledged murderers relationship, the doctor's guilt as well as the assistant's). i wasn't fond od the lionel red herring because i had koticed it and it being random wasn't satisfying.
i didn't think aden was a good villain at all. it came out od no where and there is the homophobic undertones and strange characterization (he was very kind to the child i believe) and what the hell was the thing with the nanny?
the leo-thing was a strike of genious. as was making the narrator an editor who notices all the riddles and details, so much nice pay off

This is the second book in the series, I have thoroughly enjoyed the story within a story format! I love the Agatha Christie classic murder mystery theme in Pund’s story, with its eclectic cast of characters and intriguing plot. Susan’s perspective pokes fun at these classic stories but provides a fresh take on mysteries. I enjoyed trying to find the connection between the stories!

Even though I enjoyed this, I probably wouldn’t read the next book. It is a very long book and I don’t see much character growth or anything to push me to continue. Susan is a good character, but can be frustrating with her romantic and career choices. While these characters and books are interesting, a third story with this format seems repetitive and unnecessary.
