The title of this book caught my attention when I walking down the aisles in the library. I’ve never read anything by Fiona Davis before. This book is REALLY good. The chapter bounce back and forth from present-ish day (year 2016) telling Rose’s story and in 1952 telling Darby’s story. Both take place in New York City at the Barbizon Hotel for Women. I’ve already added all of the other books by Fiona Davis to my TBR list.

As a fan of the author, this one fit the normal formula - but it also had a bit of a twist, along with some tense moments. I enjoyed the pace and setting although some moments felt a little too clearly spelled out for me, it was still a great story. Easy to read
Pop Sugar’s 2017 Reading Challenge - A book set in a hotel
I really liked Fiona Davis’ writing style and I liked learning about the Barbizon Hotel for Women throughout this historical fiction tale, but the overall storyline of The Dollhouse didn’t do it for me. I wouldn’t necessarily steer people away from reading this book, it just wasn’t a favorite of mine.
If you’re interested in learning about The Barbizon Hotel for Women, I would suggest reading a non-fiction book that include stories about these women. Personally, that would be a lot more fascinating rather than reading a fictionalized story about the women who resided there.
