Times change and people grow older, and Agatha Christie does not pretend otherwise. It must have been tempting to allow St Mary Mead to remain the same bucolic village it has always been; instead it is now surrounded by a housing development and a modern grocery store, among other signs of 'progress.' Miss Marple has aged as well and is now addressed (by her new live-in housekeeper) in the way one might speak to a small and hard of hearing toddler. Naturally this doesn't stop her from solving what she needs to solve.

To sum up: AC could not only write a very clever mystery but was also a very keen observer of humanity. If there is indeed an afterlife I will make it my job to meet her.

I’ve been on an Agatha Christie streak lately and very much enjoyed all of the titles I’ve read, but this is the best one yet! I love the side story about the aging Miss Marple dealing with the kindly condescension of her carer. And I love that The Lady of Shallot is more than just a convenient reference but an ongoing theme of importance to the plot.
