Good ending to the series (that must be read in order, otherwise you will be totally lost). The relationship turn could have used a little more attention, but otherwise excellent. Highly recommended for fantasy readers ages 11-15.
There is probably not one person who doesn't love this book! A great ending to Pierce's quartet! You know when after a series you get this post-book depression? I totally got that after this series ended. I wanted to be Daine! I love that she and Numair finally got together. (kinda like Jane&Rochester with the age difference). and I'm glad Pierce put a little bit of them in her other series that are set in the realm of Tortall.

I really enjoyed this series, but the whole time I was so on edge about Numair and Daine's relationship. She's 16 in this book, and he's in his 30s. Pierce portrayed it okay, so I didn't feel like he was being predatory or anything but... It still rubs me the wrong way, and I couldn't quite get into it. I don't think they're bad for each other or anything yada yada, but maybe if she was just maybe four or five years older than she is? 16 is suuuuuper young for someone in their 30s, and he literally watched her grow up. Just plain weird IMO
I was immensely disappointed in this book. It should really be a one star, but was not a complete failure of a book. I wasn't pleased at all with how everything was thrown together. It seemed like a lot of mashed up ideas into one book and different interesting aspects showed up and were gone without much explanation. Plus, she takes away our two favorite characters from the war at hand and it really wasn't necessary to do. Not only did it take them away from the action, nothing really big or important happened in the god realm. You had the introduction of the cute little darklings, but those things could have easily happened even if she was there fighting in the war effort. Moving the book from the mortal realm to the god realm took the book from high level of interest and action (skinners) to it becoming boring and immensely slow-paced (stuck for days in parent's cabin) in comparison. The book builds up to this big war, but we see pretty much none of it. Just really disappointing.

In the last installation of the Immortals Series by Tamora Pierce, Daine has to save the world as they know it before Chaos eats everything.
Don't be fooled by the previous sentence, while completely true, it does not show the way this book is beautifully put together. We finally watch Daine grow up, relationships change, powers grow, and happiness and peace are found.

Daine and Numair are pulled into the realms of the gods where they learn the truth about Daine's parents and the war in the mortal realm. Finally, they come home and save the day. This book didn't quite fit with the others in the quartet for me, and Daine made some odd decisions. Hmm...
