The Immortals Series is my favourite Tamora Pierce series, it's what got me into reading as a child. I love this book (less than the rest but still a lot) and I know that Tamora has mentioned she wishes the age gap was a little less herself so I have no issues with it.

The Immortals was a favorite from when I was younger. I reread it because I wanted to share it with my daughter, but I don't think I'll be letting her read this one. While I loved the other books in the series, I can't ignore the overt
pedophilia between Daine and Numair.
that's not something I want my daughter to be reading and thinking it's ok. Such a big let down after the previous books.

Not only an age gap romance, but also the insinuation that the 30 year old man has been into Daine since she was 13. 🤮 I loved Tamora Pierce growing up and really enjoyed the rest of the books in this series, but this is truly terrible for any middle grade reader to encounter as “normal”.

In terms of ranking:

4. Wolf Speaker
I usually skip this one. Idk why but it just doesn't work for me. Maybe because I enjoy/prefer Daine interacting with Numair and other Tortallans?
3. The Realms of the Gods
I don't find the realms of the gods that interesting, although I love Broadfoot and the dragons, of course.
2. Wild Magic
One of the best "intro" books to a series I've ever read. Easily in my top 20 of all time books.
1. Emperor Mage
Daine Loses Her Temper is perhaps one of the best chapter titles + understatements ever. Additionally, the dinosaurs saying goodbye never fails to make me cry, and Bone Dancer is one of my favorite friends Daine makes across the series. Zek + keys! Also I think the Graveyard Hag is a hoot.

There’s no denying that Realms of the Gods delivers in terms of scale and a mostly satisfying resolution to the book series. While it may not be perfect, the novel does make sure our heroine Daine remains the same strong-willed character we met in the first book.

As for The Immortals Quartet as a whole – I’ve been a fan of this series for a long time and as an adult I still get enjoyment each time I read them.

Great culmination of this series, it once again failed to entrance me the same way it did as a child but ultimately is a super fascinating world and young strong female character to follow. The numair/dane romance is a little less palatable as an adult but it’s still handled quite well imo
