I read this compilation ostensibly for The Little Mermaid, which was in the Classic Group short story read for the month. I quite enjoyed all these tales, but especially liked that the heroine in The Snow Queen was a girl, and also enjoyed The Steadfast Tin Soldier

Of course I had to read this book!

The Emperor's New Clothes- if you don't know yourself, you'll fall for whatever
The Nightingale- true friendship means forgiveness
The Little Mermaid- oh boy! Let's talk.  Possibly a movement through stages of life.  Female sexuality?
Thumbelina- a story of unrequited love.
The Ugly Duckling- more about a fluke change than acceptance of being. So go find your flock!
