Ok I don’t think Goodreads saves my reviews sometimes because I definitely wrote one of this book and it didn’t save. I don’t remember what I said about it other than it was kinda interesting but I didn’t like the love triangle and I was team Soren all the way. Theo was also annoying I didn’t really care for her.
I remembered one of the things I didn’t like- supposedly this girl stopped being able to speak Astrean at 6 years old but somehow she’s fluent in it? Even talking about her virginity and whole adult conversations. That didn’t seem right .

Ash Princess follows the typical story of a princess whose kingdom was stolen from her as a child and now she's trying to fight for it back, BUT it is well executed with some great characters. I was hooked from the beginning.
Since her kingdom was overthrown when she was a child, Theo has been raised under the cruelties of the Kaiser and publicly punished any time her people rebel. Because of this she's a very broken character. She's played the role of meek captive for the last ten years, but when the Kaiser takes things too far, she decides it's time to fight.
But everything isn't black and white. Yes, these people are her enemies, but can she betray the one friend who has actually been kind to her? And maybe the Kaiser's son isn't quite so bad. Then there's her own people who don't quite trust her after years of seeing her bow down to the Kaiser.
I really enjoyed this. It's a bit darker and the characters are damaged, and I just loved it.

I really like the world, and I do enjoy the characters. I saw a lot of what happened coming, but it was still a good read. I'll definitely read the sequel.
Hmm 3.25 stars? Despite reading this at lightning speed on audio and even though it was enjoyable i didn't care much for the characters, at least not enough to continue the trilogy, lots of tropes but for the most part they were well done. Not sure how i feel about the female lead since i liked her backstory and the schemes and mindgames she has to play but it wasn't enough for me. So 3/5 stars enjoyed it but nothing spectacular
Def one of my favorite reads so far this year.
Was so easy to read and get lost in. I am not usually a huge fan of such a large focus on getting to know characters, but absolutely love the characters in this story so far, and getting to know them.
I struggled putting this book down and can't wait to continue the trilogy.

I was so surprised by this gem of a debut fantasy! I cannot wait to continue the series.
The premise is interesting but unfortunately very similar to other YA fantasy books. This was a page turner but really relied on violence to keep the reader interested. I hated the love triangle. I also think that after 400 pages there should be more of a resolution.
Irritating ending that leaves a huge cliffhanger. After a while, it got less irritating, but it still is a great deal of nail biting and irritating whining.
This book is a little too YA for my tastes. There isn't anything wrong with it, but YA simply isn't my cup of tea.
