“Anything will lose its meaning if you repeat it often enough”
“Books took me to places I could never go otherwise. They shared the confessions of people I’d never met and lives I’d never witnessed. The emotions I could never feel, and the events I hadn’t experienced could all be found in those volumes. They were completely different by nature from TV shows or movies.”
Read the Korean version first, then the English version - prefer the Korean version. The progression of the plot in the English version feels a little more fast-paced...and melodramatic.
This is in Spanish as well! Would like to read.

I loved every single sentence of this book, which I devoured in a single day. I felt like I was growing and maturing along with the characters I became attached to, as if they were my friends, or rather, as if I myself were the protagonists. It is a somewhat sad and reflective story, at times funny and sweet, at times a bit heavy... it deals with themes that not everyone wants to face or read about; but in the end, as you can tell very often from the book, this is life, these are the experiences that it gives us. You ask yourself so many whys and hows, but there's no answer, that's how it is... you have to live, experience and MIGHT understand afterwards. It reminded me of the fatigue, behaviour and thoughts I had as a child, even I called myself a little monster...

Yunjae is a Korean boy diagnosed with alexithymia, a condition that makes the experiencing of emotions such as anger or fear difficult. Fortunately, Yunjae has the loving support of his mother and grandmother, until tragedy strikes and he is on his own. Shortly after, he meets a troubled teenager named Gon, and the two boys forge an unlikely bond over emotions.
I won’t lie to you, there are times where I wish I wasn’t able to feel anything at all, so negative emotions like anger and pain would be nonexistent. And I won’t deny that it would sometimes make my life easier. Despite the fact that he came off as a huge jerk, I could sympathize with Gon in that regard.
When I said it would SOMETIMES make my life easier, that’s because a lot of the time, feeling emotions is a good thing. They’re cathartic. I enjoyed this book because it made me think about things like that, and I also learned a valuable lesson in the process. It was also an easy read, and very fast-paced. I finished it in just over twenty-four hours.
The only thing I wish would have been different was that there was more to the story. Sometimes it felt a little too fast, and I also would have liked to see more dialogue, to get that balance of showing vs telling.
TW: bullying, use of knives, extreme outbursts of anger
