hey man, don't talk to me for three months .

OK SO

Love had changed the situation. Niall didn't yet love the strange, dangerous child, but he loved Declan, and Declan loved Ronan.
So Ronan lived.

All this time, the biggest lie Declan had told himself was that he hated his father.
What he’d really meant, every time he thought it, every single day, was: I miss him.

Declan and Ronan embraced without words, an uncomplicated hug, no apologies, no words at all until Ronan said, "I brought you something."
The door opened again to reveal first Adam, and then Jordan.
"Pozzi," she said, and Declan smiled at her with all his teeth, with all his body, hiding his grin from no one.

On the seventh day, the Lynch brothers discovered they were friends once more.

"You want one of these?" Gansey asked. He gestured with his chin to indicate it. The all of it. The wedding.
"Yeah," said Ronan. "I think so."
"Well, that's a relief," Gansey said.
"How do you figure?"
"I asked Adam and he said the same thing."

Without taking his eyes off the sky, Ronan reached out his hand to Adam to offer him something. It was a ring. Without taking his eyes off the sky, Adam took it and put it on.

It was all very good.

this series was a trip and now I'm feeling empty inside
adventurous dark emotional mysterious reflective tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I liked the author interview at the end a lot, helped put some of it in perspective for me. Basically that the magic system is intentionally kind of a mess. Still not something I particularly enjoy, but the author and I are clearly different given she believes in spiritual stuff around dreams irl which I think then impacts how she writes magical dreams. Loved how much of it was in Boston. I looked up the place in Medford to see if it was real and it is not
which makes sense considering it explodes lmao
. Still I fear my favorite part is ronan and adam caring a lot about each other in violent situations which is entirely on brand for me. Adding this series to a mental list that maybe I should reread sometime because I wonder if I would follow the magic system better knowing it beforehand.

it was all worth it for the epilogue

i already miss this world sm

“it was all very good.” :( an amazing end to my favorite series ever. ronan’s character development makes me emotional every time i think about it, and this book definitely earned him a place as one of my favorite characters ever

Solid but relatively anticlimactic finish to a great series. I think stiefvater did as good a job as anyone could with this concept, but the problem is that a story about dreams was always going to feel a little too abstract to really suck you in.
