There is something to be said for the way Stiefvater creates red herrings. The way one thinks this book is about something else, then it turns out to be something different. A book about dreams and dreaming becoming a book about family, the bonds of that family, love, magic, and coming-of-age in the most extraordinary way all at once. The theme of choice and duality was played out beautifully.
The thing that stops me from giving this 5 stars is the overuse of parentheses to exposit information throughout the book where it was entirely possible to weave said information naturally that I became sick of seeing brackets everywhere. Other than that, a well-rounded finish to the birdverse.
