Interesting time period and subject matter. Did people really talk like that? Seems wild that they did. Learned a lot about subject matters I knew nothing about.

It’s hard to write a review on this book without spoilers... I have so much that I want to discuss with someone else!
I’ll start off with the negatives. This book was ALL OVER THE PLACE! I mean, wow! I feel like we went in and out of four or five different settings and stories simultaneously! While I liked the pacing of the story... this was a bit much. Secondly, the “twist” was something I saw coming from a mile away. I didn’t find it very clever really at all. Also, the twist sort of cheapened the whole story of “Gangland” to me. Again, it’s hard to dive into this further without spoilers!
Now for the postives! As I said, I loved the pacing of this book. This author clearly has a natural appreciation for story telling! Also, I really grew very fond of the main character of Nell. I wasn’t expecting that at the beginning of the story! This author also clearly did her research of the time period because the language and mood and tone she used fit perfectly. There were these little droplets of scene setting the author used that didn’t really add to the plot but it added to the overall theme of the story! I really enjoyed that.
Overall, I really struggled to finish this one in my allotted weeks time because it just didn’t grab my attention like I wanted until about half way through. I did struggle a few times with shelving this one and moving on. While I’m glad I didn’t since at the end it did payoff nicely, I don’t think this is a book I’ll remember as “enjoyable”.

It was a bunch of cockney yappers. Fun, entertaining, but nothing too crazy. Picked up about halfway through the book
