This was a good time. Ya know it’s good when you immediately look up book 2 and feel wild disappointment when it’s not out.
What I liked:
-nice banter
-nice slow burn (reluctant friends to lovers with sexy tension throughout)
-FMC isn’t perfect out of the gate just smart and desire to learn / driven
-liked that the main characters maintained some autonomy, not your classic ‘touch her and

Started out a bit slow and I found the MMC a little annoying. The book did pick up during the last 30% or so and I enjoyed it a lot more at that point. This is definitely a slow burn, but when the spice hit, it was SPICIN🥵! I just realized this is supposed to be a 6-part series which I do t love as 99% of romantasy stories do best as trilogies AT MOST and usually no more than duologies. I think the ending of this was a good setup for book 2 and I think we should see some good tension between the two MC’s.
This is a difficult book to rate. I enjoyed the banter throughout the book that had me giggling. I grew to like these characters while also being annoyed. But it always felt like something was missing and nothing else was happening the whole book. Then the ending and betrayal made me so mad. The MMC could’ve handled it in so many different ways and what he did was unforgivable. I didn’t expect him to do that… The whole time I was wanting more from the FMC power storyline. There really was no action either so I didn’t really know what to expect from this book. Nothing was solved either, the kids were still missing and being brutally murdered. The prophecy should’ve been discussed more throughout the book. From the prologue to then nothing the whole book I was a bit confused with the MMC and his storyline.

What an interesting world to delve into. This book is definitely more focused on the friendships and relationships of characters rather than too much worldbuilding but it is intriguing none the less. Knowing this is going to be 6 books is a bit scary as it will probably take a while to write and get more answers but I do want to continue Arken and Keirans story
medium-paced
It’s been awhile since I’ve dived into a romantasy and this was a good one! I was pulled in from the very beginning and adored all of the characters. It had so much banter and not only between the couple, which I love so much! There was also some kink spice and queerness that was so fully accepted. The world and magic were so intriguing and the mystery around it all had me on the edge of my seat. I can’t believe it left on such a cliffhanger!
Tropes:
Morally grey, shadore daddy mmc
Dual-pov fantasy romance
Slow-burn with scorching spice
Elemental magick
Addictive banter
Dark prophecy, dangerous secrets
Tension, angst
Yearning.
Charming, clever fmc
Arcane university
The FMC is Smart and finds herself in the city of the gods to attend university and learn more about who she is and what she is. She has her secrets and is afraid to tell anyone about what she thinks she is. The MMC is a captain under the elder guard, a shadow conduit who has his own dark secrets. There are kidnapping going on in Atlas, but the MMC is trying to figure out and at the same time balance his friendship with the FMC.
In all this, the two MCS feel a pull between them. They are connected in ways that they both don’t understand.
I reached the 46% marker and quit. When I went into this book, the blurb got my attention. I was expecting the FMC and the MMC to be grown-up and not be young adult and maybe that was my mistake. The MCs are quite fairly young. I got lost at some point in terms of how the magic system worked, elders, resonance etc. I had no issue with tension between the two MC’s but there was a lot of repetition. I didn’t mind that the MC‘s were bisexual, but it felt forced on my part. I wanted to love them both, but it just wasn’t for me.
I won’t lie. The book has put me in a minor reading slump. I’m actually disappointed.
