Good story. Real page turner towards the end. It was really long though. I think it wouldn’t have taken anything away from the story to edit out a good 100 pages. Also, grandma’s character was weird and kind of pointless.

This book started as a hard-to-put-down page-turner for me. Twenty years ago, Julia Carroll disappeared and despite huge efforts, no trace of her was ever found. Her family was torn apart by the heartbreak - her mother & father divorced, he eventually committing suicide. One sister became estranged and sank into a world or drugs, crime & abuse. Claire, the youngest sister successfully married but has inner demons of her own. But as we begin to discover the truth of what really happened, who was responsible & the extent of the cover-up, I felt it all became improbable. The villain was simply too evil but not entirely convincing; Claire was too naive & too nice. As the climax is reached & a final victim suffers at the hands of the serial killer, her rescue was totally unrealistic.

Listened to on audiobook and had to speed up and skip some parts because boy was this graphic. Very good thriller. I was def hooked, but terrified. Not for the faint of heart. 4/5

About 200 pages too long and overhyped. The ending was good but it was really hard to get into.

wow okay I see now why people talk about Karin Slaughter books like they do. I loved this and I think I will probably spend most of 2022 devouring the rest of her stand-alone books. absolutely devastating

Let’s get my one con out of the way: this book is insanely graphic. Like made me actually ill on my morning drive listening to it at points. And it’s not just one chapter of graphic material, the whole book is one downward spiral into a slasher movie. One star removed because I have a weak stomach, not the authors fault.

On the pros, this book is incredibly well written, the characters are dynamic and interesting, the plot keeps you guessing, and the ending is satisfying in a way that makes your chest ache. I really enjoyed the book, except for the aforementioned gore, and recommended it to most of my friends. Masterclass in thriller writing. But have some tums on hand.
