DNF’ed at 30%.
Honestly had no clue what was going on. Not necessarily a bad book, I might pick it up again in the future and reread from the beginning.

If "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy and "The Year of Magical Thinking" by Joan Didion had a baby, and then that baby was raised by Rupi Kaur and one of those rare-word-themed daily tear-off calendars... you'd more or less get this book. Which isn't to say I hated it. But I was hoping that an introspective surrealist zombie book would have a little more "oomph" / staying power — and honestly, l'm entirely unmoved. Appreciate the attempt made (I can see the vision!), but simply did not deliver on any of the particularly standout qualities of the comps listed above.

This is a beautifully written book, with lovely poetic choices that I really appreciate. The crow, the Swarm, it was amazing. However, I struggled to stay connected to what was happening in the story. The element of the main character's disconnection from the passage of time is exciting but also takes the reader further into her mind and further away from sequential events. For everything I appreciate about the book, I also have unanswered questions. It leaves me feeling unfulfilled - And then again maybe that's the point :)

Not for me.
