Deeply unsettling and uncomfortable but masterfully written. I hated and loved this book at the same time

this probably isn't a book I would've normally picked up, as it has all of my most terrifying fears all together, but I got this through owlcrate and it grabbed my attention.

I was shocked at how much fun I had reading this, and it was the perfect October read for me!

This was a delightfuly spooky time. Reads quick and kinda like a teen horror movie, which I expected and liked. I don't read horror, so this was the right taste of spooky but not really scary for me. Thrilling without going too dark.

The imagery was incredibly vivid and I loved picturing the island vibes. Beautiful yet unsettling.

A good read this spooky season if you're feeling something tropical and lightly horror, but won't keep you up at night.

Is this going to be a 5* for everyone? Probably not. But I enjoyed it a lot and got what I was expecting out of it, which is exactly what I wanted from it so it's 5* for me.

Kinda wish I had saved this book for October. It was the spooky season vibe but set on a tropical island. A few plot points I predicted pretty early on but the overall story still kept my attention regardless. This book was more spooky than I expected honestly. 3.5? Stars

The main character was coughing up blood this entire book and not once did she cover her mouth

Everything I want in a YA horror. The story beats aren't always the most original but I was interested throughout the entire story and wanted to see how everything unfolded. Would recommend.

I love a good ghost story and I thought this one was unique. It had a Moana feel to it with the tropical setting and the island being similar to a living being.

I stayed up past midnight to finish this book. I loved all of the imagery and the twists and turns of the story!

This story is fun. If you’re looking for a unique tale filled with a few jump scares, some moments of paradise and a mystery you’ll think you solved but in fact barely stumbled blindly upon The Depths might be perfect for you.

Slight spoilers: All “near” death experiences should be followed by a two week trip to paradise. Except in this case the gorgeous guy who lives on island doesn’t match up with who his little brother says he is, there’s ghosts only seen by those who have died, and the water that seems to magically heal you while you’re in it is maybe the most normal part of the island. This book has characters you can’t help but love, even if they’ve been dead for over a hundred years and consistently have spiders on them. This book needs no sequel, but I do long for more scenes with Violet.
