After the train wreck that was book one..... I could only expect the "situation" to get better. For there to be a better understanding about each character because I HATED them both through book 1; But I couldn't put down the train wreck of a book. Now, having read book 2.... I have hope that these two are redeemable. We truly never know what drives people to be or do things, horrible things. I see her. He sees her. And now we see him . Well done Ms. Paige. Well done!!

HELP what
This book was LITERALLT such a shitshow bye like the stuff that happened
Okay let’s start with him wanting to kill her because that was lowkey hot

“You can’t kill me,” I said, my voice more steady than I felt. “People would notice.”
“I expect people to notice.” Edward picked up a fountain pen off his desk and twirled it absentmindedly. “I have a first-rate funeral planned. I expect many will attend, even though it will be held in London. I don’t have time right now to go to the U.S., which I’m sure your parents would prefer, but that isn’t theirs to decide. It will be a nice event, are you sure you. I’ve even saved you the covered spot in the family plot next to my parents.”

“ Think about if you want to live? Sure. I’m in no rush to snap that neck. It really is pretty.”
LIKE MF BYE NOT ONLY WAS THIS SHIT FUNNY AS HELL IT WAS JUST LIKE OKAYYY

Umm yeah okay so then we had the whole keeping her trapped on the island and like she shared shït and like they had this rlly strange therapist type captor type relationship ish thing that was rlly cofmsuing and highkey probs Stockholm syndrome but it’s fine

Celia: okay so I usually find the “I’m gonna break you” shit from men cringe cuz it always ends up dumb, this actually was intresting because he broke her like unironcially and it was like so slow that you didn’t really notice till close to end and it was like he cared but didn’t and yeah. So I loved Celia but in book 1 I had a lot of issues with her but here I liked her purely bc I understood her motivations at this point. Also girls past was one of the most traumatic shit I’ve ever read like I was reading that shit and I was like bruh oh my lord. Also the fact she got therapy and wasn’t magically fixed by the man was swag.

Edward: okay I liked him at some points, was largely confused by him in others and overall he was fine. Like he was billionaire ceo àsshole with dark past but like he was also just idk how to even describe him ig I liked him but yeah. So yeah him and Celia were just there’s no words to rlly describe it.

I'm giving this 4 stars because the writing itself was amazing and up until the end I was really into this book. This book needs a massive TW for child sex abuse (CSA), I've given some further thoughts towards the bottom in case anyone doesn't want to read possible spoilers. So onto the review:

I could really feel Celia's frustration with being stuck on the island and having to play Edward's game. She has to remember and tell him a lot more about her past and the background behind the games she plays and the person she became. We also get to hear from Edward's POV occasionally, where it is more evident just how much she has affected him, which has led to his original plan being derailed.

The development of their relationship is....complex. It's hard to know if she really loves him or if there is some Stockholm's Syndrome going on. It makes sense that she would fall in love with him though, as he is the only one that really sees her and the only one in her life who has cared for her and loved her...if caring for and loving someone can include keeping them captive on an island. The sex between them is pretty amazing, but not what you might have expected, just like a lot of other things in this series. I'm glad it didn't end up being another bad depiction of BDSM that is really rape (been disappointed in a lot of books in case you can't tell...)

-----Possible spoiler below here-----

Anyway, maybe it's just me personally, but the ending was really, really difficult to stomach. I don't want to spoil it, but I will give a MASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING for graphic description of child sex abuse (CSA). It is hinted at even in the first book that something happened to her in the past. But when she tells the story, it was just too awful for me. It's pretty detailed. And then Edward's response to it was very disturbing to me, and it was depicted as being a good thing he did in the end, but it was awful and affected me a lot in a bad way. I think his response almost disturbed me more than the original event. And I read some dark shit. I guess everyone has different things that they are sensitive to and maybe this wasn't as bad for some other people, but for me it was intolerable. I don't think I can continue the series which is a shame because it looks like they get revenge on people who hurt them in the next book which could be cathartic.
