I love Christmas and mysteries, but didn't enjoy this one. At least a typo a chapter.

If you follow my reviews, you will know that Ms. Flower is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors. She creates wonderful cozy mysteries that draw her readers in with her descriptive writing style and her down home characters. I am a frequent visitor to the Amish towns in Holmes County Ohio and I can easily picture myself back there whenever I pick up an Amish cozy mystery written by this author. Her mysteries are always woven throughout the entire story and the plots have a steady pace that keeps me turning the pages.
For me, this series is a gem. It hits all the highlights I look for when choosing a cozy mystery - well written characters, charming setting and good solid mysteries that keep me guessing. I will be back for subsequent books in this series and any other that this author writes.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy provided to me by the publisher through Netgalley.

I was laughing by the end of the first paragraph in [b:Premeditated Peppermint|37794311|Premeditated Peppermint (Amish Candy Shop Mystery #3)|Amanda Flower|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1514871409s/37794311.jpg|59457678] book 3 in the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series by [a:Amanda Flower|3412728|Amanda Flower|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1476971006p2/3412728.jpg]. The book starts with the lead character, Bailey King, ruminating on the many uses of peppermint: "It has a thousand uses. It has been used to freshen breath, flavor beverages, calm nerves, and even grow hair. But as far as I could tell, it did not have the power to repel ex-boyfriends."
Bailey's ex-boyfriend/celebrity chef Eric Sharp has arrived, unannounced, from New York City and now stands in Swissmen's Sweets, the candy shop run by Baily; Clara King, Bailey's Amish grandmother, and Charlotte, a young cousin to Clara. The shop is awash with peppermint preparations for Harvest's Christmas Market when her "ex-boyfriend crashed my candy shop. That was the moment when I realized peppermint's shortcomings."
Eric is in Harvest with a film crew from New York City and the plan is to film a Christmas special for his show--including getting back together with Bailey. But, there are complications. First, Bailey can't grant permission to film in the candy shop. Swissmen's Sweets belongs to Clara and she will need to get the permission of her church before any filming can take place. Second, Bailey has no intention or interest in Eric. She is far more interested in Deputy Aiden Brody, but work schedules of the two have interfered with starting any type of relationship. Aiden isn't happy with the New York City invasion of Harvest, but there isn't much he can do, seeing as how Margot Rawlings, a member of the village board of directors was always looking for ways to raise Harvest's profile and increase the flow of tourism dollars. She has granted the film crew permission to film in Harvest and they intend to do so.
Before filming can begin, outside of the shop since it is off-limits until the Amish deacon and bishop of Clara's church make a decision, a body is discovered in a gazebo on the village square. Eric is a prime suspect, and Bailey is the only person with any interest in proving his innocence. As much as she doesn't want him in her life, she knows he isn't capable of murder and now must uncover the killer's identity to keep Eric out of jail. But, the killer is determined not to be found and will do what he or she must to get away with murder.
As per usual with Flower's mysteries, she keeps the reader on their toes. She's an expert at sprinkling in red herrings throughout the story, and it's hard to figure out the real culprit before story's end. Humor is also sprinkled throughout, making her stories fun to read.
So if you're looking for a cozy mystery with humor, red herrings that keep you guessing, and a cast of well-rounded characters, including a pet pig named Jethro, I recommend Premeditated Peppermint and the other books in the series.

I enjoy everything Amanda Flower writes. In the third installment for the Amish Candy Shop Mysteries, Bailey King, her grandmother and Charlotte are working on preparing peppermint candy for the Christmas Market which is located right across from their shop, Swissmen Sweets. We have been hearing about Bailey's dirty rat of an ex- Eric. Their relationship had been splashed across the tabloids and Bailey left New York embarrassed and heart broken. Bailey is surpised and angry when Eric waltz's in to her shop, wanting to film a Christmas special with the premise of rekindling their relationship. This is even further complicated by her growing feelings for Deputy Aiden. The majority of the Amish villagers don't care for Bailey and feel like she has brought trouble to Harvest, Ohio (that could be due to the various murders that have occurred since she showed up). The victim ends up being Rocky Rivers, the executive producer of Eric's show (and one of his many ex's). I like the twist at the end when the killer is revealed.

Overall I enjoy this series. In this third book Christmas has arrived in Harvest and the town is getting ready for the Christmas Festival with lots of Peppermint and a Live Nativity. Bailey's ex NY boyfriend also arrives with a camera crew to film a Christmas segment for his reality cooking show. When the producer is found dead and he is the prime suspect Bailey sets out to clear his name. I enjoy the Candy Shop and Amish background. The characters in town are fun and Jethro the pig is going to be a star. The mystery was good with lots of suspects and red herrings. The book is easy to read and perfect for the Holidays. Enjoy
