Decent. Not great, not horrible. Predictable.

In some respects, I liked it better than Twilight, but it was still too optimistic for me.

This book bored me to death back when I first read it. I must have really hated myself to go through the agony of finishing the whole book.

For me, this book started out a bit slow. With that said, I'd like to add that once it picked up, it picked up in a HUGE way! I'm not usually into stories about aliens and such, but I found myself really enjoying this one. I've read reviews that mentioned some of the characters could have been right out of Twilight, just with different names. I thought that at one point, but I did end up changing my mind. I think these characters are truly engaging and unique. I felt for Wanderer and her struggle through her new life, inside a body that's still occupied by the owner. I felt for Melanie, trapped inside her own body... confused about the relationship she gains with Wanderer. I also felt for Melanie's family and the surviving humans... trying to make sense of what's right and wrong when it comes to their new addition to the community. The Host was thought provoking and unique. I enjoyed it immensely and recommend it to one and all!

obvs some red flags/toxicity in the book, but liked the morally grey questions the plot discussed. enjoyment mostly came from nostalgia because that book was my personality for a few months on 2013 haha
