This was so good and entertaining. It's fast paced and pulls you in right away. I was kept on the edge of my seat with my heart racing. One of my biggest issues with zombie stories is the believably, this was told in a way that made it feel real and possible.
I really liked the characters. There's some angst among these three teens who find themselves in this terrifying survival situation. I loved that we were thrown in at day one and that the characters weren't clueless. I can't wait for the next one.
I highly recommend this for any zombie lovers or anyone who wants a good creepy read.

This is how zombie-apocalypse starts. Dean Meat is one of the scariest stories I've ever read (I don't read much scarry stuff :)) and I made a mistake of reading it before bed. :)
Three teenagers: a girl, her boyfriend, and her brother are delivering the paper to the secluded house. They find a crazy lady, who starts to attack them. When escaping they end up locked in the basement, with no escape. It's hot, they are trapped, and the lady keeps on scratching at the door. One of them gets scratched by the lady. Now teenagers are fighting the clock, they have to escape before they get infected and kill all the zombies before they spread out.
Also, one of my favorite things about the book is the explanation, how Zombies came to be and from where.
The writing is amazing, the story starts right in the middle of the action and I was sucked right, from the start till the very end. It's a thrilling, page-turning book, perfect for Halloween month. :)
I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good horror book.

I think reading horror is not my thing. I just don't find it creepy or intense enough.

I tend to be pretty cynical about zombie literature. I have read so many Dead Meat Day One is the first in what appears to be a great new(ish) zombie series. The plus:
- It is set in Denmark! AS an "ugly American" I just sort of assume all books I read are going to set in America unless I am specifically told they are not. I love reading books set in foreign countries, this is a major plus for me.
- The author does not spoon feed me the plot, just like I figured out the story was set i Denmark, we, as the reader discover what is going on with the characters in the story. I understand there is a Dead Meat Day Zero novella that I am not able to find anywhere. Nick Clausen, if you happen to read this review and you feel so inclined, you could send me a copy of the novella. (Shameless begging inserted here.)
- The Author pulled a Psycho on us plotwise. I will not say more because I do not like adding spoilers to my review, but if you know, you know and will be perfectly clear what I mean if you read the book. And no, the zombie is not Norman Bates in a dress!
There are nine days in the series, and each day is represented by its own book. THis should carry me through the summer. Nick Clausen looks to be a great new author find for me.
P.B.R. I would have finished this book way quicker, but I read it while on an Alaskan cruise and i was busy being immersed in the glory of nature. I feel I should be able to read the rest of the series at a much brisker pace, as the writing style is fast paced.

Synopsis:
It is day one of the end of the world. It starts with three teenagers being trapped in a hot and stuffy basement, whilst the lady who used to own the house is dead, outside their door and trying to get in, scraping and moaning and showing no sign of relent. Just a few hours ago they were listening to music, in Thomas’ car with no care in the world other than feeling hot and sweaty. As they delivered their last paper to the old lady’s house, they didn’t know their lives would turn to chaos and the end of the world was about to begin.
Review:
Before receiving this copy, I had not read an apocalyptic book before so I was unsure as to whether I would connect with this book or not, however I was looking forward to exploring something new.
I really liked the author’s idea to split his books up into each day, so you can really see how much can actually happen in one single day and how things can change drastically over a few hours.
The book jumped straight into the action and was past faced throughout with drama right up until the last page which makes it perfect for reads who are action addicts. Personally, I like to have a bigger build up however as the story will be split into days, I understand that a big build up will not work for this storyline, therefore I was not put off the book. The chapters were short and snappy and were well suited to the pace of the book.
I was unable to connect with the characters as I like to know character backgrounds but for this read it was actually better that I didn’t as you don’t want to get too attached to anyone during a zombie apocalypse. I also couldn’t believe the characters stupidity at times, but I realised this plays a huge part with the story.
When reading I did find the story a little unbelievable but again this worked with the storyline and I am intrigued to see how the story pans out over the days ahead!

Usually, I'd say zombie stories aren't my thing, but of course Nick Clausen would change that.
This was so fast paced and so atmospheric that I didn't even notice time going by while reading it. This author has a way of keeping you on the edge of your seat and always wanting to find out what happens next. I will never not recommend his books.
Can't wait to read Day 2!
