I wanted to like this book, since I usually love stories with multiple timelines and characters, but it was only okay. The “mystery” of how the multiple storylines intertwined was very obvious and there was only one “twist” that I didn’t guess. It was all a bit too convenient to me. Looking back, very little actually happens for a book of this size. If you are a lover of historical fiction, there are far better books out there!

Entertaining plot with a nice thread to connect 3 protagonists across separate timelines, but at times the writing made it incredibly difficult to follow and differentiate between the characters.

3 1/2 stars. Very well written, however I just found the constant changing of time periods frustrating. It adds to the suspense of the story, but it's difficult at times for the reader.

I got this book because [a:Lauren Willig|14469|Lauren Willig|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1349230643p2/14469.jpg] is one of the coauthors. I've only read one other book by [a:Karen White|160033|Karen White|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1487123648p2/160033.jpg] ([b:The House on Tradd Street|4505161|The House on Tradd Street (Tradd Street, #1)|Karen White|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1344586077s/4505161.jpg|4554187]) and one by [a:Beatriz Williams|4927506|Beatriz Williams|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1495573962p2/4927506.jpg] ([b:A Certain Age|25817466|A Certain Age|Beatriz Williams|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1462516131s/25817466.jpg|45583549]). While I somewhat enjoyed their books, I wasn't in love with them like I have been with Willig's work since the first Pink Carnation. [b:The Forgotten Room|25431172|The Forgotten Room|Karen White|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1430158925s/25431172.jpg|45191877] is what I love about Willig's work as well as other authors like [a:Kate Morton|615274|Kate Morton|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1444262471p2/615274.jpg]. It's a great blend of stories, characters, and time periods that create a nice, big picture. It doesn't hurt that there's a little romance included as well.
