This book was a bit of a mess. It's not bad. In fact, at times it hit me in the feels and I found myself tearing up.
Probably because the author is making this the first of a series, she felt the need to give the backstories on the entire cast, but it didn't flow for me.
The story would had been complete if we didn't learn so much about the supporting cast. They can get future books .  Or maybe there were to many themes -- friendship, family, love -- that made it messy.

Oh, as a nitpick I hated the way the author wrote conversations. I became distracted with the phrasing .

Who can resist a lesbian love story? Certainly not me! This story was so sweet and funny and filled with love. A bit of a slow burn but otherwise perfect. 😍 Great characters, believable plot, delightful ending. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Wow, what an absolutely amazing and adorable adult romance book! Delilah is an absolutely amazing character and I both love her and envy her because she is BA. I also really love Claire and how empathetic she is towards others.  This was super adorable and I loved it.

This has got to be the cutest queer romance book I've ever read. And that's saying something. But like - I was squealing through most of the story. It was just so good.

First and foremost, I loved the cast - the entire cast. Every single person was so valuable to the story and made it so interesting and balanced. There was no singular person who I thought could've been left out.

Secondly, the deeper conflicts in the book were just as excellent - if not more - than the romance itself. The fact that Delilah struggles throughout the book with her identity as a daughter and sister, despite being so confident in every other aspect of her life was so well done.

And on the other hand, there's Claire, a bi, single mom with the intense desire to make sure everyone around her is comfortable and happy - without really taking much care of herself and her own needs. She also struggles with raising her daughter, trusting her ex, and being happy with someone who her friends don't necessarily approve of.

There's a bit of a "forbidden love" vibe, which was almost addictive. The secret dating kept things steamy throughout the entire story, which was a lot of fun (especially at the spa *wink wink*). Even though the chemistry was there very early on, it was a slow burn but in the best way possible.

Of course, Astrid's story is a huge aspect of this book, which was a bit of a surprise. I figured the "get her away from her fiancé" thing wouldn't last super long, but it wound up being a really integral part. From what I've heard, the sequel is going to be primarily about Astrid, which I love. She was fascinating to me and I can't wait to see what happens in her life.

I would absolutely read this book again. It was cute and sweet but also had a ton of great depth!

For some for most this rating should be a 3.75 but I’m knocking it down to 2.75 because the  one of the main character Delilah is a lesbian, but she does not use the word lesbian to describe herself until halfway through the book but before that she uses the D word. Which is not something people who are not lesbians should say. And promo for this book, Delilah is described as a lesbian, but in the actual book itself she is not described as one until halfway through the book. Also, this book is very alcohol dependent. And by that I mean that in most of the scenes were something important is happening or there’s just a group gathering. Alcohol is present and being talked about and being drink. Which I personally have an issue with and I also think it paint the idea that you have to drink to be an adult and that queer people drink a lot.
Onto the romance part of this book I thought it was fine. I don’t love that. The reason Delilah got with Claire was essentially for bed and I know that it doesn’t end up being like that in the long run but as somebody who grew up plus size it’s hard to read it the skinny hot person going out with a plus size person as a bet, even when it turns out fun. I also think that big, romantic gesture of taking the photo of Claire was creepy and not romantic. So it didn’t really work as a romance story for me.
I think the relationships in the book between the characters are realistic. Like how Astrid and Delilah feel toward each other. And the friend group was heart warming.

I really enjoyed this book! Delilah is a fun snarky character and I enjoyed her relationship with Claire. I was also surprised by the depth of the exploration into Astrid's character. The characters are a little much, but in the most fun way; they aren't caricatures and you want to see them succeed and get to their happy endings.

Thank you Netgalley and Berkley for an arc, here is my honest review.

4.75

Delilah Green Doesn’t Care is everything I need in a romance book, queer women falling in love while dealing with the difficulties that come with life.

Loneliest is always a topic in romance books, but I think this is the first time I felt that it was written well. Delilah is a new comfort character for me and I cried a few times reading her POV.

Delilah and Claire’s chemistry is just written so perfectly and I understand why they fell for each other. And although they fell in love in such a short amount of time, it didn’t feel like insta-love.

One of the main issues many romance books have is how side characters are written. At times, side characters are forgotten which leaves the story feeling empty. Thankfully, this didn’t happen here and most side characters had great development. Everyone but Iris, I wanted to learn more about her, but that never happened.

Overall, I love this book and can’t wait for the next book, which is about Astrid(Delilah’s sister)
