I’m so happy I finally got around to reading this book because I loved the movie but the book has so much more detail (shocker… nobody is surprised).
The main focus of the movie is obviously on the romance, but in the book you get the perspectives of not only Dawson and Amanda but also Ted, Abee, Mrs. Bonner and her son, and Candy—some of which aren’t even characters in the movie. I appreciated how these different perspectives allowed you to see the chain reaction that led to the ending. TW: emotional

oh man. nicholas sparks novels are so predictable. i am so bored by this book.
Definitely not one of my favorite books by Nicholas Sparks. I really wish this was a more upbeat story. It seemed like the good part only lasted a few pages.
I love a good ooey gooey romance and usually Sparks is a good pick for such things, but he needs to get some better, newer material. It's like he's run out of ideas and he's just recycling his old stuff. And he's become more and more predictable with each book. I was hugely disappointed and all this book did for me was remind me why I'd sworn off him after Dear John and The Lucky One. Hopefully the movie is an improvement. I shall discourage my book club from ever picking him again.
This was my least favorite Sparks book yet. It wasn't a very interesting read. It was slow and predictable. The only part I like was the final "action" scene.
I enjoyed "A Walk to Remember", "The Notebook", "A Bend in the Road" and a few others, but this was way too similar to many of Sparks' other books and too over-the-top sappy for my taste.

The book is at least 10 x better than the movie.
I remember really liking the movie when I saw it but I watched it again after reading the book and found the movie to be such a disappointment as it was totally dumbed down and lost character.
That being said.
Nicholas Sparks knows how to write stories about abuse that ring true.
