Overall a very softball book, even as it addresses some of the awful conditions these kids were put under, imo not enough was highlighted about the negative effects and how the adults around the kids failed them - lots of "well, look how successful they turned out!". And generally letting a lot of producers and execs off the hook. I dunno, it played very safe.

This felt like a watered-down, Disney approved version of the truth. I was expecting a book that was similar in content and tone to "I'm glad my mom died" but  instead,  I felt like this book excused or ignored a lot of the terrible shit that was happening behind the scenes. The closest the book came to really examining the effect that Disney had on its teenaged stars was in the Demi Lovato chapter but even then I do not think it came close to holding Disney accountable. I think this book is more suited to people that are nostalgic for early Disney channel and interested in the development of the shows rather than people that want to know how Disney treated their actors and employees.

Lots of focus on the rise and much less on any fall

As someone who grew up watching almost all the shows discussed, it was interesting, but I was hoping it'd be the Disney version of the book Cue the Sun. It's obviously difficult to dive deep enough with Disney such a prominent company known for taking legal action, but I wanted a little more from this book.
