A great revisit to the Dune universe. Herbert has a great way of not only understanding the scifi/fantasy hybrid universe he has created, but also of the real world, highlighted by his (mostly) cutting analyses of power, religion, ecology, and their uses. I always enjoy the historic foreshadowing blurbs before each chapter as a unique feature of his writing. This was the most political of the Dune books so far, and I loved seeing everyone’s wheels of manipulation turning throughout. Although it started out as a slog as he detailed the lives within lives of the Atreides twins, once the plot gets rolling it really gets rolling, and the world building facets he introduces are pretty complex to be fair. Looking forward to reading more of the story… eventually.
This book is by far my favorite in the series. Every storyline was interesting and comes together really well in the final chapters. I was a little at odds at first when the story focused on the children of Paul. With the feats they pull off, I found myself forgetting that these are literal kids. OP asf. Already ordered God Emperor of Dune and when it arrives I'm digging in.
