Honestly just wasn’t feeling the teacher student vibe and the fact that the teacher became obsessed really quickly. Just wasn’t as into it.

Needs better editing, some plot issues, but overall good concept and brought me back for the second. Good spice scene writing. Dark academia, idk, he’s not very dark, and they both should be much smarter than they come across. But no regrets reading.

(edited) unfortunately that was a quick dnf . i mean her going “ if he’d ordered me around like that somewhere else , day in the bedroom . . “ and i was sick of it . it’s not an actual quote and i’m paraphrasing , but i’m done . i can’t fucking stand main characters like that . if you’re going to be pissed off at the mmc , actually be pissed off at him , don’t be like “ i’m pissed but , oh if he’d been in my bed right now that would be hot “ like SHUT UP . JUST SHUT UP AND HAVE A PERSONALITY OTHER THAN HORNY .

here are the other notes i’d written down while i was reading :

page four . her nipples are already hard at the way he’s looking at her and they just met . i think i’m doomed .

i back away from the desk . “ my welcome packet , “ i blurt . “ it wasn’t in my mailbox , and geraldine said i could just pick it up here . “

“ did she now ? “ his gaze sweeps over me , blatantly sensual . appreciative , too . i can feel my skin prickle and my nipples tighten in response , but i force myself to stay calm (4) .

also what the hell does this mean ?

I glance over to see who this infamous tutor is, and find myself staring directly at him. The man who just interrupted me. He's standing apart from the crowd, his jacket slung over his shoulder now, looking so cool and composed that it reminds me of that song lyric, about a guy walking into a party like he was walking onto a yacht (6) .

Handsome. Dark. Sensual. The kind of man who knows exactly how to make you moan...

YOU JUST MET .

page 14 . so yesterday you were swooning over this man and today you’re what ? just pissy ? huh ?

edit:
yeah so unfortunately i finished the book by hate reading it and i don't think im going to be reading the next books in the series. i'm not invested. i don't care. my complaints are still the same.

the point of the book is that tessa is looking for whoever led to her sister's suicide right? well honestly it goes to the backburner so often, even though tessa is always saying something like " the reason i'm here is for wren. i need to find out who did this to her" or whatever . its all literally because tessa's horniness for saint was too distracting or whatever . the only positive i can think of is that the kink scenes were pretty good. well, there were two. and it was exibitionism, i just do appreciate a book that shows a character starting to understand what they like and appreciate sexually, know ? apart from that, this book really just wasn't worth it. i was so confused when tessa's roommates turned on her out of nowhere. i mean i get if it's jealousy etc, it happens, but is it not usually more gradual than that? am i delusional ? i'm also just having a rough time suspending disbelief for one other thing but that might be spoilers. but i mean... it's the ONE clue you have, tessa. the ONE thing your sister remembered. rly ? okay. anyways i'll only read the next book if i can get it for free. but if honestly rather the ending just be spoiled, i don't want to have to go through the process of reading the other two books.

This first book centers around our FMC (Tessa) who is starting her year long graduate program at Oxford. Of course, our MMC St. Claire (Saint) is later revealed as one of her professors. (Though that’s not much of a spoiler)

However, Tessa is not just there because she loves 18th century literature (the area of focus in her program), no ma’am. Actually, her older sister (Wren) had went to Oxford only to quickly come back home a shell of who she once was, later committing suicide.

Of course, as these two sisters had been very close, Tessa is like, oh hell no. I will find out who did to her and they will suffer for it. Since how Wren was acting in the final months of her life, and what she later revealed to Tessa, our FMC knew it had to have been an attack. An attack she was going to uncover and find the perpetrators.

Which leads her to Oxford, where it happened, and so her investigation begins. This story is very much a mystery and it will keep you on your toes

What a dang CLIFFHANGERRRRR. lol. I love it. Great spice. Love the whole professor and grad student trope

I really struggled to get through this book. I was having to constantly re-read pages because I was so bored I was zoning out.
I really liked the concept and have been looking for dark student x teacher romance but this just wasn’t it. I also just couldn’t get over the entire concept of someone so average and just breezing through life just suddenly becomes smart enough to get into a prestigious college that her med school graduate, biochem researcher sister got into on a full ride and her sole motivation was trying to figure out who SA’d her sister when her sister didn’t even know
