It's been awhile since I've read a book in this genre, and I forgot how much I enjoy them! I love that it's part of a series, but that they don't have to be read in order. This book had characters that I really loved, and ones that I truly hated (like I was supposed to). Overall a really enjoyable, easy read!

Nope, this one didn't work for me. I really, really disliked the female lead... fine I HATE her... She finds out that she is half leo, she randomly shifts, so she decides to take a trip to meet her biological father. Her plan is to go there, yell at him, tell him how he is a terrible person for leaving a child alone, know that one day she would shift into a lion.. okay well I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same way. My problem is that when she gets there and realized that he is dying, she does none of it. That may make me sound callous but all she does is tell him that he should have contacted her.. and then after he says sorry.. she's like oh okay and calling him pa. I understand it's 100% stupid to hold a grudge against a dying man but you can't go from loathing someone to instantly taking care of that someone.

Okay so meeting her father is done and over and now all she wants to do is learn how to control her shift. Smart plan. After she learns that, she's going to go back home and forget all about the pack and forget about the fact that she's a leo... okaaay. Two days later, she is in love and the mate to Max, the FELIX of the freaking pride. ohh and one that that bothered me so freaking much: She has been attacked a few times during her 2 day stay. Great okay. Then her old half brother attacks her in front of the whole pride and Max. Natural Max attacks her half brother. You know what you would expect of the felix of the pride. but she freaking stops him!!! Excuse me, if you are going to mate with the alpha or felix, you should freaking expect that he is going to have to hurt people. He's a freaking lion for heavens sake. But she stops the felix in front of everyone. That makes him look weak and makes her a horrible whatever the mate of the felix/alpha is.

I wanted to like this book. I think it could have been a pretty cool story, but I just hated the characters. Ive already explain some of my reasonings for Kitty, but I also didn't really like Max. He didn't do anything specific... At least nothing I can think of at the moment but he also didn't stick out either. He wasn't all alpha male and he wasn't really sweet either. He just was.

A woman discovers she's not quite human in this adult fantasy romance.

I read this book so many years ago. I remember loving it, but, oh times, they are a changing. I did not connect to this story at all during my second read.

Timeline
I think the events in this story take all of three days. Three days for the main characters to meet, fall in love, and learn they are mates. THREE. DAYS. When I was a teenager, I probably thought it was super romantic. Not anymore...

Characters
I actually liked the main characters, Kitty and Marcus. But the short time frame of the story made it really difficult for them to grow as individuals or as a couple. It's hard to believe Kitty is suddenly "OK" with her other status when she's had less than a month to think about it.

Ending
I was not a fan of the ending. It's HEA, but the events leading to it just seem so bizarre.
SpoilerI don't believe for one second Kitty is able to hold her own against experienced pride members. She should have had her ass kicked. Once again, people, Kitty had THREE DAMN DAYS to suddenly be OK with her other status, to learn how to change and fight, and to fall in love with Marcus(!?!?!?!).

I was considering reading some of the other books in this series, but I don't want to spoil my memories. Perhaps I will just fondly remember this series without reading them again.

tl;dr A condensed time frame made it hard for the characters, the plot, or the romance to organically grow.

-3.5 stars. a quick read.

"you seem to be doing pretty well with it."
"good to know i've got you fooled. i'm holding my sanity together with duct tape and a prayer."

"that man was moonshine, and kitty knew well enough that a smart girl stayed away from moonshine if she meant to keep her wits about her and her panties on."

"you jackass. how on earth do you manage to fit that ego through the lobby doors?"
"we measured ahead of time, of course. i've got a quarter inch to spare."

"misty is a grass watcher. she's always looking over the next fence to see if it looks a little greener. the trouble is, she doesn't seem to realize that in the end, grass is just grass. to make it green, you have to water it. but that's way too much work for her. she'd rather take over someone else's lawn, and move on again when it starts to go brown on her."

"you can take your dictatorial tendencies, drop trou, and shove them all the way-"

I didn't even realize that this was part of a series. It stood well on it's own.

I'm giving it three stars only because it took me three times picking up the book, and reading a chapter before setting it down again. Once I got onto the book, I really enjoyed it. Though I did find it a little disconcerting when the plot delved onto the lovemaking scenes. They were a bot steamier than I expected.

I actually liked this book a lot. I enjoyed the take on were-lions and would enjoy reading another book about the characters from this story. The characters had me laughing throughout the book. I believe that the only thing that had me annoyed was the author's habit of describing everything. Sometimes I wish things could be left to the imagination. In any other case a book like this would have received 3 stars, but the plot and characters more than made up for the annoyance.
