I was so intrigued by this book and yet ended up disappointed. Jessica Brody's story about Ryn Gilbert, who spends a day trapped in the Denver airport on the anniversary of her best friend's death in a drunk driver accident, felt too pat and too long. This just didn't emotionally resonate with me .

I don't have personal experience with mental illness or a loss of someone that I was this close to, but it seemed to me that it was very well done with this book. I enjoyed reading Ryn's story and how she struggled with every day life and honestly it was the perfect scenario: being stranded somewhere with absolutely no where to run and hide from her problems and meeting a stranger who carries baggage of his own.

I appreciated that she was bogged down most of the time by her demons and that she wasn't just automatically "fixed" but the cute boy she just met. There were so many more layers to her recovery and multiple people that had a hand in helping her come out of her shell and forcing her into uncomfortable situations to deal with the present. Now is that always the best way to handle things? No. There were numerous time where I just expected her to go into a full on panic attack. She did have her panic attack moments, I just expected her to have more triggers. Maybe I just wasn't giving her character enough credit, or I didn't realize the rational part of her brain would take over more, almost more like a survival mode.

I loved the setting, the different characters, and how the story played out. Great book!

This is a truly beautiful and hilarious story about grief and moving on. & I absolutely loved it!! The Chaos of standing still is a great book and gives me a new perspective on grief. I loved the flashbacks and Xander, Ryn, Lottie, and Troy. Only thing I'd fix is to add Xander's point of view, but that would definitely change the story.

Loved this book

This book is about grieving and there were many parts that were hard for me to read! I cried, laughed and even got very angry! To me it's a perfect representation of what dealing with grief looks like! Learning that it is ok to just feel every emotion and not burying them inside! I thoroughly enjoy this book and loved that it took place all in one day. I also loved all the characters and the relationship that developed between Ryn & Xander! Would highly recommend this book to anyone!!❤️❤️

This book! I highly recommend! Ever wanted to experience a quirky snowed in airport adventure full of vibrant characters? This book will make you laugh, cry, and smile. I listened to the audio book which I highly recommend because it was so vibrant. Filled with flashbacks, airport conspiracy, romance, friendship, and yes grieving this book made me feel it all. Stunning and funny it tackles the very real feeling that grief is. I was left feeling bare and empty. I can't express my love for this book enough!

I purchased this book from a discount store based on the cover and title alone. I planned to read it around New Years Eve because I knew it was about a girl who gets trapped in an airport when trying to travel home on New Years Eve. Yes, I did spend 3 hours on an airplane on New Years Eve reading a book about a girl trapped in an airport on New Years Eve.

Anyway, Ryn is travelling home after spending Christmas with her father and gets trapped in the Denver Airport while they experience the worst snow storm they have had in decades. She need to be home by New Years Day as it is the anniversary of a tragedy that she does not want to relive in an airport full of people. She meets a cute boy and other odd assortments of people while trapped for 24 hours. Hijinx and growing ensues! I have read some YA books with similar topics where I say, this is one all teens should read. This one does not quite make that list, but is more than just boy-meets-girl fluff.

Overall the book was pretty good. The writing was good and the plot was good. There was nothing absolutely spectacular about it, but I also didn't roll my eyes every time I picked the book up. It was honestly a nice read over Christmas break: not too heavy, not too light. A solid 3.5 stars.

I don’t know why so many people enjoyed this book but I didn’t. It took me three attempts to read it before getting through and I skimmed the last few chapters. I really didn’t like Ryn. I found her incredibly dramatic and whinny. I also didn’t like Lottie even though our only experience of jet is through Ryn. The other characters were interesting and the only thing that kept me going was waiting for her to finally crack and hearing what the message was, otherwise it was a painful read because Ryn was so insufferable to me. I also agree the romance felt forced and I think it was unnecessary.

Probably 3.5 stars, I liked it? I don’t know if Ryn would relate to everyone? But she related to me. It was good though, but not amazing? But it was a good quick read. The middle section or 2/3rds Into got a little boring and annoying?

But the message was good. Grief is something you have to deal with over time and isn’t something you can avoid and ignore.

3.5: some elements I didn’t care for but generally a cute and entertaining read, even with the dark subject matter.
