I grew up enjoying Gary Paulsen's fiction, so I was doubly interested in an autobiographical story about the Iditarod. I found it laugh-out-loud funny in spots. An enjoyable read about an extreme challenge I will forever be in awe of.

At times hilarious and tragic. The Iditarod comes across as pure insanity, yet still alluring. And I love my dog all the more after reading it. Mush!

My 28 year old and I got to see Gary Paulsen give a talk years ago. We got a signed paper copy which I read and loved. I rarely reread books, but I listened to this for a buddy read. The narrator helps add another dimension to this book and I enjoyed it even more. I even made my 28 year old listen to the funniest chapter with me. I highly recommend this book!

Great story of a Minnesota man who lives out his dream of running in Alaska's famous Iditarod dog-sled race. Gary Paulsen encounters one mishap after another, as well as a few heartbreaking moments, in his quest to finish the grueling 1,100-mile race.

Fantastic book for dog lovers.

An unprepared man with no training gets a bunch of dogs together to race 1000 miles.  Stupid idea but the book was great and makes you laugh
