Being Indo-Caribbean and also having an ancestral background to India, and having friends that are South Asian made me cringe while reading this book. First off, Sabina Khan thank you so much for writing this. Thank you for taking about issues in the South Asian community. Thank you for shedding light on these issues, on exposing the stories that are happening.

While this story had a mediocre ending (dont want to give it away but I was insanely happy with the ending) some stories are not like that. I love the progressiveness of Sabina Khans writing.

I love meeting Rukhsana and I love the descriptions of everything.
If you want to hear about the bengali community, about a love story between two women from different backgrounds, read, this, book.

Enjoy!

What a great book! I laughed, i cried, I cringed. You all need to meet Rukshana. She’s strong, quirky, & filled with compassion. Her ability to push thru obstacles while also keeping an open heart in order to forgive is inspiring! Everyone neeeeds to read this book!!!

Trauma begets trauma as everyone is worried about how they'll be perceived by others. What does it take to break the wheel?
Warnings: Lots of emotional, physical, and psychological trauma.

This was more like a 90 minute read, and I sped things along because I felt like I knew the arc of the story and wouldn’t miss much by reading a bit of the middle and the last few chapters. Bravo for shedding light and holding up the humanity of LGBTQ Muslims. The dialogue felt flat, but I loved the descriptions of culture, food, and Rukhsana’s code switching.
