Beautiful. Pure comedic gold. I wasn't familiar with The Room at all, so I started with the flower shop scene. I sat slack-jawed with amazement through 2 viewings then proceeded to laugh for roughly 20 min straight. After that I was hooked. I now can not believe I've scraped through life thus far without experiencing the surreal hilarity that is Tommy Wiseau.

I loved every minute of this book. In fact don't think I have ever laughed this much over any book. It's just incredible. And the authors accomplished the nearly impossible job of portraying all of Tommy's strange darkness without vilifying him. Tommy Wiseau is already such a caricature of a person, it would have been easy to keep him flat, one dimensional and entirely unsympathetic. Instead I found myself oddly charmed by this deeply flawed but incredibly original man and his mad dream.

The Disaster Artist” is the improbable story of a misfit turned writer, producer. director, and actor Tommy Wiseau of the greatest worst movie ever made.

The 2003 cult favorite, The Room was produced for a whopping 6 million and made a total of $1800 and closed within 2 weeks. Despite that, it now has a cult following that rivals The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This memoir written by Greg Sestero, an actor who lives through the making of this movie is fascinating. He tells a story of a deeply lonely mysterious man who has a drive, and funding, to buck traditional Hollywood and make his own movie. I enjoyed the story telling in the book and was fascinated by the fact that this movie was made with all seriousness despite being so bad. I have never seen The Room, but had to google it after reading. The books does the movie justice.

Absolutely loved this. Couldn’t put it down. I’m glad some potential answers were given on Tommy’s mysterious back story. You understand him a lot through Greg’s lens but still so much odd characterizations—-like why can’t Tommy for the love of god remember & repeat a single script line?

a funny memoir. i guess it's hard to divorce it from The Room and the disaster artist movie but i really enjoyed the insight and greg honestly has a lot of insightful things to say about forgiveness, desperation, and friendship.

“The Room is a drama that is also a comedy that is also an existential cry for help that is finally a testament to human endurance.”

4 stars. The Room is one of those films you really need to see to believe. It's one of the worst movies ever put on film and I love it so much. It's an absolute riot and I could quote it all damn day. ("YOU ARE TEARING ME APAHT LISAAH!") What can I say, I'm a fan of terrible movies and this about as bad as they get.

Anyways, this book was a great listen. Greg Sestero narrates it himself and let me tell you he does a fantastic Tommy Wiseau impression and I died laughing every single time. I loved hearing about the making of this train wreck of a 'movie' and while it was hilarious it also had this unexpected depth to it that I wasn't expecting and it was kind of heartfelt. Plus, Greg and Tommy's friendship is so freaking odd that it's almost charming. I think.

I highly recommend this book but you should definitely watch The Room first. Well, technically, one doesn't watch The Room they experience it. Either way you have to see it and then pick up this book for the full, bizarre and utterly hilarious experience.
