This series has gone from Fish Out Of Water/Coming Of Age to Adolescent Romance to Mystery to Espionage, and now at volume eight the story gains a bit of action.

The way the story has unfolded has been amazing to read. It could seem excruciating to wait so long for an action sequence but the whole series has felt really organic. As with every previous volume, I'm excited to see where the story goes next.

Unlike many ongoing graphic novel series, this story is moving, and moving fast. In this volume Amy finally figures out many of the missing pieces she has been trying to figure out about Oliver, why he doesn't have the proper scent, where he came from, what happened to his family.

We also get to see the bad guys, so to speak, and they are very bad too.

Hard to wait for each volume. But so, so good.

This series is unusual in combining action and mysterious agencies and and space adventure and stuff with a school story and friendship and coming of age questions. The characterization is delightful.

In book 8, we get More Plot! And bad guys tip their hands! And the protagonist helps the mean girl deal with issues and approach her relationships honestly! There was a lot of interpersonal momentum in this one, things we’ve been waiting for, and the characters are not okay. I need to read #9 now and find out what happens next.
