Sophie is married to James Whitehouse, a junior member of the British Parliament. James admits he was having an affair with one of his aides, but their accounts differ on what happened a week after their break-up in the elevator. James claims there was consensual sex. Olivia says she was raped. The book is told in present day and flashback timelines and from the POV of multiple female characters who all have some sort of history with James. We see the characters in their college days in the flashback timeline, while the present-day narrative deals with James’ trial. This was a well written book that captured the realities of prosecuting a trial under these circumstances. I found that there were only 1-2 characters I liked (most of them are rather unlikeable to one degree or another), but the plot was well crafted and interesting enough that I wanted to keep reading.

I did listen to this with Alexa. Ive done that for years, so I am used to it. I found it hard to keep my attention on this book. First, the main character I found somewhat weak; it seemed like life happened to her, instead of her living it. It did skip time frames a bit, and that is an added issue when you listen to a book.

However, this is going to be a movie and I think it will be great at that. There are definitely scenes that I can see clearly in my mind.

It was a good read. It's not hard to figure out the ending.

I quite enjoyed this book. The story was interesting and I liked following the characters from uni to present day. It didn't blow me away but was a pleasant read.
