The book follows the trial of Sophie's husband Jake. He is being tried for rape. Sophie does not believe he could do such a thing. Kate is the lawyer prosecuting the case. She is determined to see that he pays for his crimes. I do not usually read courtroom dramas. I found the book to be a little slow in some areas. it seemed that once the main secret of the book is revealed, the rest just kind of drags. It did however keep my attention enough that I wanted to continue reading to see how it ended. The book had a couple interesting twists. If you enjoy courtroom dramas you may enjoy this book. I receive d this book from Bookishfirst for my honest opinion.

I really only read this book because I wanted to watch the Netflix series and knew I should read the book first. Unfortunately the book just did not do it for me!! I think the overarching “scandal” could have been interesting and captivating but I struggled to find interest in everything happening in between. Even keeping track of the different characters was a struggle. Bummer!

This was pretty "meh" for me. I think this might be a situation where I'll like the Netflix adaptation more than the book (though I haven't watched it yet)! James is a member of Britain's political elite and has been accused of violent crimes. Kate, the prosecutor, wants to see justice served. Sophie now questions her marriage and her years with James at Oxford. There are many layered secrets and it explores revealing the truth and pursuing justice.

Excellent book extremely relevant about relationships and political arena in UK and the injustices in the justice system for women against prominent seductive men. This is a tale that just continues to unfold right through to the end of the book. Very well written and believable as it is a very grounded tale. This book follows groups of men and women at Oxford.
I think this is an important book to read
